Puddle Lights - Canbus or Not?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am currently in the process of changing bulbs for LED versions and was wondering if the replacements for the puddle lights need to be canbus complient or if I can use a standard LED as in the interior replacements?

If you have replaced yours without problems, what did you use?

Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

Regards,

Kevin.

I can only tell you what I have on the Octavia

I do have canbus leds because it does show error via vagcom and they turn off completely when they go off instead of being on just a tad as if they were still getting power (same goes for other places such as trunk and interior roof lights)

pull a bulb out and turn the ignition on, you'll soon find out

are there any pictural or videos on how to open and replace the front driver central console overhead reading lights? any information on compatible brands/specifications?

need to replace one but couldnt find any information online on how to open.. want to attempt and diy but dont wanna break the cover with a flat head screwdriver

thanks!

The cover just pops off and all bulbs (501/W5W) can be replaced with LEDs as they are not monitored for bulb failure. Rather than using a screw driver get yourself a set of Trim Removers -I'd recommend the plastic ones (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230730654710 on eBay) as they are softer on the surrounding parts than the metal ones.

I've opted for these in the reading lights http://www.autobulbs...-red-amber.html

And these for the general one and those in the rear http://www.autobulbs...Bulb-White.html

You need to drop down the cover that is closest to the alarm movement sensors. Use some thing plastic to unclip and it will swing down. You then need to remove 2 torx screws and the light unit can be dropped down and the bulb holders can then be removed.

You don't need to remove the whole unit just to replace the bulbs, just unclip the cover!

As will always be the case there is more than one way of doing things.

Personally I prefer to remove the unit as, IMHO, the plastic of the light cover is less pliable than the drop down cover and with my luck, easier to break a clip. Removal is also the Skoda method acording to their manuals but, I will be the first to admit that that doesn't make it the best way :)

Each to their own.

thanks for the various methods.. actually the front reading light is at where the arrow is pointing. see attached.

so how does opening the back allow me access to the bulb?

Because the whole central unit drops down, allowing access to the bulb holders from behind (with no risk of damage to the cover).
