Octavia VRS 1 on coilovers-HELP please.

Featured Replies

Hi everybody, Ive just bought an 02 plate VRS on standard 17 inch alloys and want to drop it as low as possible on coilovers.

I dont wanna spend a bomb as I only get to drive it 2 days a week.

Everywhere I look people either have no problems or have to change drop links.

I know everyones probably sick of this being asked but whats to do for the best and how low can I go??

Thanks in advance.

Well it's not a problem going low and if your planning on doing so it depends how your going to drive it and if you want good handling etc,I have cheap vmaxx ones on mine and have no problems with them but others will probably recommend getting better quality ones and drop links dont need changing, they are needed for non vrs models as the have different strut/roll bar set up

Thats the stance Im looking for. Yours is certainly a sweet looking car.

Im now gutted though as Ive just sold a set of those wheels with tyres thinking they probably wont fit on future cars!

Ill check out vmaxx, not too bothered about handling as it gets me to work and back and dont have time for any fun driving.

Cheers for the advice.

jom is another good cheap make mate. :) see damien : DPM performance. hes a site sponsor.

Sounds good as some places state jom lower 100mm and others say 50mm. Ive had a bad experience with koni adjustables before now that actually raised the car and dont fancy a load of agg again. Cheers.

Mine's on VMAXX - not all the way down but low enough for me.

Not too happy with the low speed ride though it's a bit bouncy for me.

After driving over 2000 miles every week in a truck anything feels nice and firm and sporty. haha. Did you black wrap the front grill yourself or buy it? It looks great.

Thanks :) The grille is just painted matte black.

I need to take it off and re-do it as it's covered in stone chips now!

what have u lowered it by?

same front and rear or different?

Robs car..

Front it about halfway, rear is about 1cm from top of thread - just lowered a bit until I thought it looked right.

If I recall it looks a bit lower there as there were a couple of bags of cement in the boot :)

If only I had the money to spend to make mine like that.....

We don't talk about the cost :)

Not when SWMBO's nearby anyway.

And it has taken me 7 years :)

Who would of thought a few years ago that people would be driving modded estates? This looks great. Credit to you!

I have JOM plus coilovers on mine, basically same as vmaxx coilovers. I've never lowered them to the bottom but I would imagine they can go very very low, I currently have the rears wound to up as far as they will go and fronts wound down about 10mm to try and balance them out

Fair play mate, so I have 7 years to get there

anybody used h&r monotubes heard there supposed to be amazing!

i.e handling and comfort

Everyone who has used them says they're great.

I plan to replace mine with either H&Rs or KW Street Comforts

what's the ride like with them wound up? Also is the car much lower than standard?

standard 17s......... put em on and wind them to the floor and go from there :giggle:

if it rubs then easy to wind up... but if not jobs a good-un  i reken you'll be fine cos you can still use a 205 tyre too

go low enough and could go a lot lower than in the pic! only reason i haven't is the chassis would need notching!

Half the price of Vmaxx, rides not even bad! I've had expensive coils in the past and these are more than upto the job. Im not naming brands or where they're from as everyone jumps on the 'they're dangerous blah blah' bandwagon.....been on the car for over a year, it gets regular abuse and there have been no issues.

No changing of droplinks or anything, helper springs are still in and the fronts wound down.

:)
