Can anyone spare an ABS sensor?

Featured Replies

Hullo,

I'm having a 'mare changing a stub axle and ultimately I need a new rear speed sensor for the ABS.

If you literally do not care why I need a sensor, skip the bit between the lines... I need to vent my frustration below

Thanks to some eediot (guilty), some poorly installed wheel bearings have destroyed one (and maybe two, I dunno yet) rear stub axles. The bearings obviously got so hot, the inner part of the roller melted and left a solid residue on the stub itself. After 1.5hrs manually filing off the bearings innards, I declared the stub a gonner. I took the old one off, and put a new one on. The new one was for models without ABS (thought they'd be the same :dull: but I put it on anyway cause at least I could drive it the, or so I thought...

The retaining cup and pin for one of the drum shoes was corroded and hence useless, so one shoe was hanging loose. The parking brake cable as well - MY GOD - what a pain in the arse that is. The spring was absolutely solid. So were all the other springs for that matter and I suspect in the fannying around process, I've split on of the rubbers on the rear brake cylinder. It's not ****ing out or anything, but if you put pressure on the actual seal, a tiny bit of fluid trickles out, so I'll see when I get the other shoe back on.

Problem is, the hex bolt which holds the ABS sensor to the stub is also badly corroded and I've tried all sorts to undo it. I don't rally have more than I need in the way of tools or anything, so took it to a few garages who can't seem to be arsed to fanny on with it drilling it out or whatever. I must say too, it may be the only car I know of where you have to take out the rear seats to undo the speed sensor.

Who'd have thought a couple of overtightened nuts could have caused such a migraine. Silly me

Jorily reckon people are gonna pay £70 for one (obviously solid gold ones), which made my eyes bleed.

Ebay on the other hand offer them at a much more justifiable £20.

Can anyone beat that posted for a working sensor?

Much appreciated,

JJ

Oh not good then mate, is it just the sensor you are after or the abs stub's too?

Pal, if you could spare the time to take off a sensor, id sorely appreciate it.

As for the stub, I bought the non-abs from skoda for a tenner, yet i went back today for the abs one and, with tears streaming down my cheeks and severe heart pains, had to fork out 52 quid or something for it - with a 10% discount!

But anyway at least its new and assuringly shiny. Still, i might need one for the other side yet so ill let you know if thats the case buddy. No rush btw, ill make do without abs for a while
