Octavia Brake conversion

Featured Replies

Evening all,

Today Ive been sorting out the Octavia vRS brake swap. I have so far done the rears and found out why I have the ABS/TC light on, the actual sensor has been broken. Ill have to order one from TPS and sort that next week now I know what it actually is. Looks like it was broken and put in a certain position so it worked as the cable and brake line was all tangled and not clipped.

The Rear discs off the octy have been used and Ive put new ones on it and painted the none contact parts in silver heat paint so they dont rust. I did it this way as the Fabia is just a runabout for work but one I need to work right.

I had the rear callipers and carriers off a vRS I broke last year so thought I might as well put them all on the Fabia. The std 312mm fronts off the Octy are coming off tomoz morning and Im putting the std Fabia fronts on it for now while I sort the LCR Brembos.

Dont know if there is a how to? but here is a quick one for you:

I did side at a time so only needed one jack and one stand just incase the jack failed.

Chock front wheels

Let off Hand Brake and remove the trim surround, 2x torq screws under rear ashtray and 3 under front tray.

Loosen handbrake cable 10 or 11mm spanner

Put the jack on the jacking point, its just behind the sill and has a round plastic cover over it in line with the marker on the side of the car.

Once you have taken the weight of the car slightly, Crack off the wheel nuts and hand tighten 2 oposed bolts.

Jack the car up reasonably high.

Remove Wheel

loosen Brake line from calliper 13mm head (place a drip tray under)

Remove calliper and carrier from the beam 2x 7mm? allen key bolts and slide off the disc

Remove the disc

Remove handbrake cable pull lever down and lift the ball on the cable and slide out then remove the retaining clip with a large flat head screwdriver to allow the cable to be pulled through the bracket.

secure the calliper away so not to put preasure on the line.

Either Remove the Backing/dust plate or what I did, use a fine disk on the angle grinder and cut into the dust cover every 1-2cm where it curves round the brake disc.

Use pliers and bend these sections out flat so they dont catch on the 256mm brake disc

Remove the Brake line from the calliper and replace it in the Octy calliper

Pull the handbrake line through the hole in the bracket on the calliper and secure it with the clip. Then reattach the handbrake cable.

Also if your car has springs like mine had then swap them over onto the Octy ones, no need to remove the arms as there are holes in them to allow removal easily with pliers

pit the new 256mm vented disc on and screw on

Put the octavia vRS carrier over the disc and tighten on with 7mm iirc allen key, (same bolts can be used)

put new pads in to carriers and copper slip the backs

Put the calliper over and put bolts in to secure to the carrier. 13mm heads

General maintenance of the callipers was doen ie cleaning and copper slip on the sliders and guide pins, I also made sure all the threads were lightly copper slipped as they were in the shed a while and a bit dirty. Also fully wound back the callipers too.

On the whole they look good, fill the rims better. will get a better idea of how they are on the work run tomoz evening.

Tomorrow Ill be taking the fronts off and swaping them with the Octy ones and fully bleading the system with the Eezibleed thing.

Process for doing that is

Rear Left

Rear Right

Front Left

Front Right

Will also do the ABS Pump too with VCDS

Ill edit in some pics after Ive got cleaned up and had some food. Not many but some of the brakes and the cutting.

Think Ive got the bleed sequence right? if not Ill edit it.

  • 1 month later...

do the fronts go under standard wheels?

regular VAG 312s fit under standard Fabia vRS wheels. they fill the wheels something lovely

Depends where your weights are too, Ive seen some ppl have trouble coz of the positioning of them, ie bebind the spokes area. Mine fit spot on, even the rears look lovely
