Fitting MK4 Wipers

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Got a set of MK4 Aero wipers and arms but don't know how to fit them. Searched for a guide but only threads I can find mostly discuss wether or not they are better than the standard ones. Does anyone have a fitting guide for dummies please? Any assistance much appreciated.

Thanks

Undo bolts on wiper arm bottom... Twist wiper up the windscreen to split it from its spline

Then fit new ones

Maybe you should get someone to do it for you? Cause theres nothing really to explain :o

Thanks, easy when you know how...

be careful not to damage the splines on the wiper motor, if you twist the arms, you can round the splines and ruin the wiper motor as the splines wont grip the arms properly.

yeh second that. splines on them are crap. i normally put my finger behind the wiper arm midway and pivot the arm on that till it pops off.

Or get a wiper puller tool :)

I have a bearing puller i use

But pulling and twisting works

you can get a wiper pulling tool lol! what ever next!

just wiggle it a little, press down on the arm at the hinge where you can lift them up for windscreen cleaning and they soon wiggle off

Exactly how I get mine off.

When refitting a dab of silver or copper slip on the splines can't do any harm.

Original wipers and arms:

Drivers side one came off after some WD40 and then threaded my belt under the wiper and pulled upwards. Not orthodox I know but effective!

The other one was not so easy! After more WD40 I stood on the slam panel and used the belt again to tug upwards while my uncle hit the jammed nut with a hammer. It eventually loosened enough to pry off but what a mission!!!

Happy with the result though!

Nice one I have these fitted too.

I found to remove old wipers was to spray WD40 and go have cuppa for 10 min then spring back wiper arm from windscreen as this takes the pressure off the spline and slightly wiggle. They come off easy then

well done on getting the job done yourself

My dad's removed Mini engines in the same manner

I think you should be able to get the nearside arm to sit a little lower to the bottom of the screen.... Otherwise looking good

Do the mk11 octavia wiper arms and aero blades fit the mk1 octy? I have the chance to own a pair off a 2010 model octy 11 if they fit
