air condtioning / heater strength

Featured Replies

Evening all,

Currently waiting for the strut brace (four week waiting list not mentioned when I paid for it.. :@ ) Ive got all the bushes arb bushes, HD links, balls joints and so on but want to do everything in the one day.... Anyways..

I have a couple of questions regarding vrs mk1 air conditioning and heater.

The air condtioning hasnt been working for quite a while in the car and i was wondering what are the checks to carry out myself before taking it to the garage. Any fuses or relays etc to check , take apart and spray contacts ? Its a late 06 so possibly refridgerant could be all gone or the pressure is too low so it wont start?. I don't have access to diagnostics unfortunately.

The other thing was although all 4 fan speeds work, the fan feels very weak and on settings one and two you cannot even hear it! I changed the pollen filter about a year ago and it was filthy but this was the original filter! I know that it only goes in one way correctly.

Any ideas?

Graeme

The blower could be a failing motor or poor contacts on the dial. Have a look in the pinned mk1 fabia thread at the top of the page as I'm sure I read something along those lines about it. For the aircon, it could be low on gas or a fuse, the fuse will be located in the right hand side of the dash at the end by the door and should say in the booklet which fuse it is. If the light comes on though I'd say it was working and the aircon pump always runs on the vrs so I'd expect you need a regas.
