2002 Fabia PD 100 remap?

Featured Replies

Morning guys and girls,

Looking for a recommendation for remap my Fabia. Standard TDI PD 100.

I've contacted company in Crewe called More BHP, they've offered around 140BHP and 260 ft-lbs for...£175.00 if I pull out end post down to them my ECU.

Few questions:

After the tuning would I have problem with the ECU, by problem I mean, immobiliser.

What I don't want is to get my ECU back and the car to say "sorry mate I am not moving" :D

How safe is to remove the ECU from the car and install it back?

What happen with all the info stored prior to removing the ECU?

Mileage readings?

Error codes etc...

Could I do EGR delete when I am doing remap? Benefits?

Anyone in Scotland (Fife) you would recommend?

Thanks

First thing i'd say is do some reading up on whoever you use, a lot of maps and mappers exist, some are good, some are bad and some are simply a bloke who paid not a lot of money and purchased a DVD full of maps from ebay and will blindly flash anything to an ECU with no idea what the actual outcome will be. Ideally you want to see a dyno plot of a PD100 they've mapped and make sure they haven't got a stupidly large torque spike etc as the extra torque will put additional strain on your clutch so needs to be fed in gently (you're looking for a nice smooth torque curve ideally if you look at a dyno plot). The big issue with postal remapping is the risk of loss/damage to the ECU but if you pack it properly it should be fine. As for removal it shouldn't cause any issue afaik, mileage is stored in the dash not the ECU so no worries on that. As for EGR delete you'd have to ask the mapper (and obviously fitr the EGR delete kit).

Star performance in fife, think there's a few lads that have used them with no complaints :-)

I love this forum and all the knowledgeable people :D

Thanks.

My pd100 is mapped and is putting out roughly 140/150 bhp of smooth shark performance mapping ;) I posted my ecu down on the Monday, got it back on the thursday plugged straight back in without any problems. Couldn't recommend them enough :)

And the price was.....?

No issues removing your ecu and sending it off. Your ecu will then be read on a bench setup.

Mileage is stored in the cluster and the immobiliser chip on the ecu. Only the chip with the maps on is touched. So no issue with loosing mileage or immbo code.

Dyno plots don't tell the full story. Yes it will show you the measured output and show you if theirs any spikes. However it wont tell you what boost pressure is being requested, how the turbo is dealing with the requested boot, how the calibration maps of the injectors have been altered etc etc

Egr can be turned off or map altered so it's never used. Apart from the physical hardware failed and costing to be replaced, I don't see the benefit of your engine tanking longer to warm up or loosing the asv. But that's just my personal feeling.

Problem is without carrying out logs or seeing the file itself you won't know :(

Well...I need to start from somewhere so I am asking.

Sure is. Forums are for sharing knowledge so hoping someone can give you recommendations in your area :)

I've used More BHP (Jason) in Crewe, as far as I know he uses DNA Tuning maps, so not a back street un-heard-of tuner. I never had problems with mine on a 'stage 2', didn't smoke and felt pretty smooth.

Had a 1.4 tdi Polo mapped by them as well, no problems with that either.

Should be no problem removing/replacing ecu; but don't forget you'll have a non-running car until your ecu returns, so might be worthwhile finding someone closer who you can drive to and back again if you need the car.

And the price was.....?

£150, in the shark summer sale, usually £300

I got my PD100 remapped by Shark, the figures in my signature include a EGR delete

Not bad considering my car wasn't mapped till 140k miles and is now on 156k :)

I would reccomend star performance they remapped my supervisors mk4 gti and i cant even come close to keeping up with it, reckon its stage 2 though and hes just denying it ;)
