Insurance for a Favorit

Featured Replies

Hi I have been insured for 2 years with Footman James with an Equity Red Star policy. Great price £110 fully comp and no mileage limit. I have just got my renewal through and they cannot offer me insurance because they no longer deal with Equity. Rang a few insurers and they were quoting silly money eg £500+ !! even Adrian Flux. I am 57 years old and only use the car about 2000 miles per year. Any ideas of a cheap classic insurer. ( ps I only pay about £480 for my VRS WRC!!!) Cheers Melmagtilly

pps If I cant get a cheap quote , the car will have to go - 11000 miles from new!!!

Hi, It's been a while since I had my Favorit but I don't recall fully comp being anywhere near the sort of values you're now being quoted. My wife has a 1.4 Fabia and typically pays less than £200 so can't quite understand what you're finding with other insurers. The best bet may be just to purge the comparison sites and a reasonable quote should drop out, especially if limited mileage is applied. Good luck. Rob.

Hi , Thanks for that. I have trawled the comparison sites and some have even quoted ££650!!! My missus has a Brand new Fab and only pays £250. One broker says its because insurance companies these days dont want / not interested in the bottom end of the market. Also it could be because I havent any no claim discount given with the previous policy - even though I have max ncb on my VRS WRC. I shall try for another week and then reluctantly Ebay will be calling ......................

Hi, sorry to hear that. The NCD will be an issue although you should still be able to get a policy around the £300 mark. That's roughly what I pay for my Felicia Fun but being classed as a car derived van (commercial) it is a headache to insure and the comparison quotes I got last year ranged from £300 to £1200! Mind you we think we've got it bad, my 19 yr old pays over £2000 for his 94 mk 3 Golf and other cars would have attracted a lot more! Insurers don't you just love um! Hope you can resolve & you'd have no trouble selling if it comes to that.

It sounds like you need a 'multicar' policy, from such as Admiral, which would 'tag it on' to your VRS policy

try heritage classic car, dont remember the number for them but there on the net,i had my mk2 escort insured with them on a limited milage and it was £120 fully comp, any car over 15 years old is classed as a classic car.

Hi thanks for the suggestion. Tried it but not too good!!£880 for £300 excess and limited mileage of 1500 miles.(Chaucer Insurance) Non starter I think. AA have come up with a quote of £250. May have to bite the bullet and pay it.Cheers

Hi, I doubt you'll get any much cheaper than the AA quote. They sent me through a very competitive quote last year based on a previous contact I'd had with them. After around 15 mins on the phone was just about to do the deal and happened to mention the phase pick up. That killed it as they didn't touch commercial, even though it has never used as such! Good luck with that.

Took out the AA quote for £250 so back on the road. The price was discounted cos I was a member and I also insured the VRS WRC with them at the same time!
