Removing Speaker Waterproof Skin Trick..

Featured Replies

I've read a guide on this site that talks about taking the waterproof skin and making a flap in it to improve sound quality from the front speakers.

I'm probably going to attempt this over the weekend, but my question is, what is the best way (i.e. easiest and most low risk) of removing the speaker grilles? can they be removed directly or does one have to pull the door panel apart?

Cheers

Dave

Use a small screwdriver at the bottom of the grill and gently start to work it loose, once it starts to come work around the grill until it pops out.

Just be carefull you don't slip with the screwdriver and scratch the panel.

To be honest I didn't notice that much difference. While you have the grills off nip down to your local ice retailer and get some replacement speakers. ;)

In that case...

how much of a bitch is it to fit new ones?

Coz i'll just get a pair of new ones instead - the rear speakers seem fine, but the fronts are a bit poor.

btw, the head unit i've got is 4 x 50W MOSFET, and it does have quite a lot of power.

oh

what should I buy

10cm ?

16.5cm i believe. Try just putting a x thru the membrane first, i'll releave the pressure but still maintain most of membrane so any water should run off.

Hmmm well I just went and pulled the speaker apart, and I simply pushed the membrane against the door, this improved it, but the thought of buying better speakers is now saucier.

I would assume replacement speakers would yield yet better results?

Do I need component based speakers, as the tweeters are seperate in the skud? or can I get away with buying combined ones ? the grills seem big enough to accomodate

I was going to suggest one of those loyalty cards you get off Tescos etc, saves scratching it :D
