Spark plug review after 1000 miles

Featured Replies

Right I've had my BKR7EIX Plugs in for about 1000 miles, I still seem to be having a misfire when changing gear but only in 5th, 6th an 7th it tends to happen when accelerating hard but short shifting i.e less than 4k rpm

So I went for the BKR7EIX plugs, and have still been having trouble so last week I ordered a set of standard plug to see if they would make a difference, today was the day to change them over and bellow are the plugs that came out

To me they don't look too bad but the ceramic around the electrode on 1 & 3 is considerably darker than 2 & 4. What's everyone else opinion?

*They are in order 1-4 = left - right* (1 being the cylinder next to the oil cap)

No. 1 had a bit of oil like residue round the threads the others where dry?

I dont think the misfire is spark plug related i thibnk it has to do with the current softwear in the ECU, the vehicle is direct injection so can run rough anyway but, a softwear update on your first service should sort the misfire

It's been in kie, twice and they were w****** telling me they can't do an update, but if the car was in for it's service they would do it anyway. Then the second time it was in they couldn't find anything wrong with it but he "manually forced an new map on it" as if it was a massive job but they never done a thing as far as I can tell. And then he said oh the tech can still feel the misfire, bye.

So I'm gunna take I somewhere else or wait till my service an deffinately go a different garage

My plugs have made no difference mate. To be honest, they don't look too bad. When I changed mine, they took no effort to come out

Kie is probably right about the update, so get that sorted first.

I see it's a shame ive said time and time again how annoying it is to hear of people like yourself experencing bad customer service, And when the suits are sent in from skoda tell me what we can do to increase sales and what i can do to help draw in more custom, and everytime i say customer service needs to be looked at we need people who want to be here who share a passion for car's were as if spoke to people in SUK and most can't stand car's or how they work ect its just a job, well F*** off and find another job cuz u aint doin me any favour's! I try and push you guy's on here when you experiance bad customer service write to SUK and tell them how you feel your experiance as a SKODA customer is and how you've been treated. As SUK Bosses are looking at increasing revenue in the UK and there constantly looking at way's to do this as they have been ever since they became apart of the VAG group. Write to them and let's get these usless members of staff outta here!

That aside the softwear update should have cleared your fault although if your planning on having it remapped would that stop the misfire? i hope someone who has had a map may be able to answer that?? Maybe a trip to revo and see if the lad's there have an idea on what they could do to cure the missfire, mine does it on tick over but i am yt to get mine serviced so ill see if that makes a difference. and and would a multi-pronged spark plug cure it? as looking at the plug's you took out there is alot of soot ect so the spark isn't going to be clean and crisp everytime were a multi-pronged plug the spark will always go the the stronges conducter and having 4 to choose from and always sparking from the cleanest prong ensure's a crisp spark everytime. Just a thought? lol

But at least they would be the right staff, committed to the product with knowledge.

Going back to the plugs, doing a bit of old fashioned plug reading I would say 1 & 3 are spot on from a mixture point of view but 2 & 4 are weak. They can look a bit sooty or oily around the edge because that bit isn't as hot but doesn't really tell you anything. They should all show an even light tan colour on the ceramic around the core if the mixture is correct and the plugs are in the correct heat range.

Mines running on BKR9EIX plugs gapped at 0.62 at the moment. Misfires have gone, but when we up the boost again im expecting them to reappear

Going back to the plugs

:giggle:

Have ypu had your car mapped vRSY? And if so did it run smoother after the map? Or was it the new plugs you used? Cuz if it was the plug then a multi-pronged plug could be the answer?

NGK do a 2 or 4 pronged plug, although i have read mixed veiws on these plugs so i dunno lol

You're joking right Kie? Sy has had his vRS mapped more times than I've had hot dinners (ok maybe not that many times but a few!).

Looking at running an ordanance survey map next
