Is there a standard factory fitted brand ?

Featured Replies

As title really, do Skoda's come with one brand OEM, or does it vary for model / spec ?

Just wondered what to expect on my car when it arrives !

Oops, I appear to have posted in the review thread section, sorry

varies..... the fabia vRS comes with either conti 2's or dunlop sport maxx... the octys others completely, some other fabia's bridgstone touranza... all a "big" name, but loots of different sorts.

Continental, Bridgestone, Pirelli, Dunlop and Goodyear appear to be the the primary brands currently. Also seen Michelin and Firestone in the past.

The Yeti for example, can either have Continental or Goodyear for vehicles with 16" rims and with 17" rims the Pirelli, Dunlop or Goodyear.

Have Continental PremiumContact 2 on both our Fabia II FL and Yeti from factory unfortunately; they only like warm dry conditions.

Thanks guys, looks like a lottery then !

TBh I don't know what is a good tyre, other than my current car came with dunlops which I have been pleased with grip levels and lack of road noise on.

I heard bridgestones are a bit noisy, though no first hand experience.

My experience of pireli's on a car was many moons ago, and I wasn't that impressed.

I have just found out my new car is shod with Bridgestones ... reading on here it seems the one make a lot of people complain of road noise about !

Reading user reviews on the net, some people say noisy, some say queit :wall:

Will have to see how I get on, apparently they are the ER300's. According to bridgestone they would are a summer tyre, I expected factory fits on a non sporting model to be all weather, but I guess they put on what they have !

Any Briskoda opinions on the Bridgestones ER300's ?

The last time I was looking at tyres the local tyre centre was telling me that some brands are more prone to UV cracking than others (I think they quoted Bridgestones as the worst). So if you leave your car somewhere where it gets direct sunshine on it for long periods of time you could have to replace the tyre sooner rather than later. This happened on SWMBO MX5 still lots of tread on the tyre but side walls with cracks due to UV exposure.

Interesting, kinda brings up a question. Does using tyre dressing make the uv degredation better or worse ?

TBH long life is less of an issue for me, Lack of noise and good grip wet and dry, I would take over longetivity everytime.

It should reduce UV degradation, though it depends what sort of dressing you use. Any sort of plastic/rubber restorer (which is effectively what tyre dressing is) will help prevent the rubber drying out and cracking, and also reduce exposure to UV and chemicals in the environment which can degrade the rubber (on the most basic level, there is simply another layer of "stuff" for the UV to penetrate). As to what extent who can say, I don't think anyone's ever tested it.
