135 K and counting, any little jobs that could need doing

Featured Replies

My cars knocking on a bit these days, @135k it still runs nice bar the rattles of course

I was just wondering if there are a ny little jobs that I should consider doing that arn't well documented in the service lists.

Like injectors seals or something else ??

Nothing to tricky though as it will be my and a big hammer doing the jobs

At 135k, I would change the gearbox oil.

That was done at around 50k iirc, still worth a swap ??

mines just over 170k and still going strong :)

oil pick up in the sump is a must.

The oils been in for 85k so I would say so.

Done about 18mths back

Gearbox flange seals?

Injector seals if you have black gunk on the intake mani,

Clean the TB and the IC out.

Depending on oil used the Pickup pipe might not need doing.  Mine didnt but its hard to tell till its too late.

Cant really think of anything else mate.

Billy

Clean throttle body, egr intercooler and pipes with carb cleaner

New gbox oil

New coolant

New brake fluid

Tb gets done yearly, IC could be doable, Flange seals ...... Tell me more please, is there any clues I should be looking for to suggest its time.

Only synta platinum used for oil and pick up checked at around 105k iirc.

Now then the rocker gasket/injector seal area, was having a little look earlier and came across this lot

And at the back of the block

I'm thinking it may be new gasket time !!

Mine are proper hard work miles lol, speed humps and crap roads no motor ways for me !!!

Look for gearbox oil leaks, where the driveshaft flanges enter the gearbox.

also check the VVT gasket on the right hand side of the block.

Mung indeed!

Yeah that's the one. I need to change that seal too as mine is weeping a bit.

I did a gearbox flange seal last year, and it wasn't so bad. Have a look for the DIY guide I did if you're interested.

Mine's 10yrs old and on 135k miles too, and I'm amazed how reliable it still is. All my other cars were dying of rust and electrical faults by this point!

Is this separate from the rocker gasket ??

My engine is perfect as far I know, the rattles are a bit annoying, but as long as the expensive bits are stil ok, thats all that matters

thats what you need to look for mate.

Normally the Drivers side long shaft one goes. not sure why.  the Box with the Quaiffe diff in was proper covered and actually dripping where the pic there is my original and that only seemed a very minor weep. I have new seals for it ne way lol and Ive done the one thats on the car now.

fairly easy to do lol.
