Motorcycle Headlight Upgrade

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I've recently bought the missus a bike to get through her test. Eventually we ended up with a 2005 Yamaha YBR125 (carb model). It's been great for me to get back in the saddle after 4 years away and she is picking it up well. Here is the offending article:

My question is, I was riding it the other night and I found the headlight a little lacking; I was wondering what headlight upgrades are available and what'd be recommended?

Thanks.

IMHO buy a set of uprated car bulbs and fit one with the other kept as a spare.

From what I can see (and I might well be wrong here) most of the bike ones are a single bulb from a pair at about 70% of the price.

Osram Silverstar or Phillips vision plus used to be good.

I'd why away from the 80% bulbs, purely because they have a shorter life and with it being your only light source and on all the time, I'd not want to be without it.

To be honest I dont think just a bulb would make much difference.

Bates are very good lights or look for a twin streetfighter style set up.

Or look out for somthing like a GSX1400 or XJR1300 light as they are quite good.

You can also get hids for bikes I think? Tbh I'd happily do it as you can't be too visible on a motorcycle

I might try and upgraded bulb then. Can only improve the situation. I don't really want to start making significant alterations to the machine.

I used to ride MZs with 6v electrics and dismal lighting so I'm used to picking out the cat eye's 10m ahead, but its for the missus' sake.
