Does the Monte Carlo Have Weights Strapped to the rear?

Featured Replies

hear a few posts about the RS's having these... does anyone know if the monte does?

Only vRS does have ;)

Really why would you have weights strapped to the back of the car, surely that will take weight off front axle making the traction worse?

Counter balance the weight of the driver

Depends who's driving ....

The weights move the centre of gravity towards the centre of the car and improve handling of the vRS since it has a different suspension setup to the rest of the range.

Depends which engine you have in the Monte. A 1.2 petrol will have a better weight distribution than the vrs anyway as the engines are lighter than the 1.4 twincharged unit, especially if you have the three cylinder 1.2. :)

If you have a diesel Monte then the weoght distribution is going to be far worse than the vrs and you would need a dead body in the boot to even out the weight. ;)

I wouldn't say it makes handling better at all. Quite the opposite in if anything. What it does is make the car have a more neutral and understeer prone tendancy.

i must have bumper made of lead to balance out the big old iron lump in the front of my car.

I would tend to agree, usually weight on the rear limits the tendancy for lift off oversteer. Putting weight in the back for better handling doesn't ring true as weight at the front or back just increases yaw.

Yes, exactly what car makers want.

Bad for experienced enthusiasts. Good for any old joe public who can buy a fast car and whizz around with no idea of how to control oversteer.

I was just wondering if the monte did as was going to remove them purley for weight saving. i drive to and from work everyday and on holiday every now and again... if it did have them i was wondering if it would be worth removing for fuel saving or not... but seen as though it dont have them or so it seems ill leave it alone :) .

How much weight are we talking about?

A Jacks Russel, or a St Bernards worth

25kg mate. seems quite alot really. i'm considering taking the weight off my vrs, and fitting some springs + rarb. I'm no lewis hamilton, but i can't imagine that it would have a big enough affect on handling to give me any problems. Although i guess you could also say that i'm the sure the people at skoda know what they're doing.

is this an insurance mod, is there no way for insurance to find out
