Octavia A4 2004 Speedo And Fuel Gauge Fault

Featured Replies

Found the problem the blue and white cable was cut off so no signal to the speddometer. Now i just have to put the car back togheter again and hope everything works. Not to impressed with how they made the cable harness for this one. I guess cut cables are not that uncommon.

I'm glad you found the fault.

'cut cables' are not that common unless the loom has been disturbed. If the break is at one of the connectors in the box under the wiper motor, then it is likely caused by corrosion due to water getting past the seal. There are two drain holes under the plenum covers and these can become blocked.

If it's in the middle of a wire, make sure you rewrap the loom in tesa tape (or cloth tape) - not PVC tape. see http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tesa-adhesive-cloth-tape-for-cable-harness-wiring-looms-15mm-x-15m-black-/110996707395

Octavia 1.9TDi 2001        I wonder if I can come in on the end of this? I appear to have a fault on my coolant temperature sensor.I can find no faults until i get back to T14a connector under the battery. then there semms to be a fault betweenpin 4 and 8 (purple wire) to instrument cluster. I want to test this section but dont Know physically where the connections are on the instrument cluster end and I only have haynes manual which is not exactly comprehensive. Can you help?

Does your reversing light work?

It may seem an odd question, but the road speed sensor and reversing light switch are next to each other and share a fuse/feed.

This sorted it for me , thanks for posting . I saw this useful fuse chart on here too .
