Would you pay to download TV programmes?

Featured Replies

So - as the UK is announced as one of the worst offenders for downloading 'pirated' TV shows on t'Internet. Would you pay to download and view shows (Napster / iTunes style) on your PC and how much would be a fair price?

I'm a thieving Gypsie :D

How much are your prices referring to?

Each episode?

If so then you are talking about more than the cost of a DVD box set at those prices for a whole series.

Given that a subscription to sky 1 would cost me about 13 quid a month it would have to be cheaper than that to be a realistic alternative.

I download quite a lot of US shows , but then when they come out on DVD I almost always buy them anyway as I prefer to have them nicely packaged in the best quality format available.

I agree - it would be pointless downloading something which you could get cheaper (and better quality) elsewhere.

Perhaps I should have made the question clearer - as most of the piracy is related to shows which are screened in the US 6 months before they appear here and sometimes years before the DVD boxset is available...that's the ones I'm on about!

Well I stay up 24/7 to just to watch the broadcast channels' programmes, let alone those I've stored on video ;) Well, before I discovered Horlicks and a feather pillow that is...ZZzzzzzz

Just checking, what was the question again? Something about a 36 hour day - or 48 hours if taking account of the download time also. I could fathom pirate TV progs if on a desert island - er- with a decent computer, but otherwise?

I watch very little broadcast tv live. F1 and the news are about the only things I regularly make the effort for.

I record a few things on my freeview PVR so that I can watch them when convenient minus the ad breaks.

I download a few US shows (24 , Enterprise , Simpsons , Joey) , and then the rest of my viewing is DVDs.

As for paying for the stuff I download , if it was at a reasonable (small) price per episode then I'd probably pay for it. It would need to be in time with US broadcast schedules though.

As for what would be a fair figure..... Sky 1 costs

Exactly the same with me.

There's only 2 shows I download... The West Wing (which has become utter pants in the latest series, by the way) and The Shield.

I have all the box sets released so far of both series' - I actually pre-ordered them all! It's not like Im ripping them off, they still get their extortionate DVD fees out of me, just takes a few months until they release them here.

I personally wouldnt pay to download TV - I dont like the idea of paying and then not having something physical for my money (and no doubt they'd be quite expensive in relative terms).
