Brakes

Featured Replies

I've just had the the front brake pads and disks changed with the 60,000 mile service and they reckoned the rear pads have only got a couple of thousand miles left on them and there's corrosion on the disks. I've changed pads and disks myself on a variety of cars and bikes, but never on one with ABS, is there anything different I should know about before I do it myself?

Only that you'll need an M14 spline head and a piston wind-back tool.

I'm no expert and the only thing I struggled with on mine was using the caliper wind back tool. One side was dead easy (with the tool), the other (the first one I did) stuck quite a bit and made me feel like a bit of an idiot in that I couldn't get the rewind tool to work properly.

Are they the type that rotate in or push in straight? I've always managed the straight one with a couple of G-clamps in the past.

You have to rotate them, and because of the handbrake assembly on the back it's really awkward to use a g-clamp.

Definitely rotate. Still not sure why one side was really easy and the other so hard!

Cheers, I'll get a proper tool for it then
