Octavia Ariel Booster

Featured Replies

Hi guys, when I first bought my car the previous owner had fitted an after market head unit but never bothered to get an ariel adaptor so the radio would work. I quickly purchased the correct one and fiited it. Now these ariel adaptors come with a blue wire thet spurs off of them (see poor pic below) which I take it is to power the ariel booster?

The reception is ok but fades in and out some times so I thought I'd have a look and see what I could do. Now on the OE wiring loom there is a blue cable which I take it may have supplied power to the original signal booster, See Pic below.

Now on the ISO lead side there is no wire in this slot, so there is nothing connected to the wire coming from the stock wiring loom. See Pic

So my question is can I plug the blue wire from my aftermarket ariel adaptor in to the free slot in the ISO lead to connect to the oe wire and it will work the booster?

Its been a long time since I've done any stereo stuff, so any help on this would be great>

Cheers

When I did mine, I'm pretty sure it went to a blue wire. As long as there's 12 juicy volts running through it, you'll be fine!

Most aftermarket headunits have a remote aerial connection, usually its blue and in colour coming from the headunit. to a bullet connector.

The original headunit powered the cars built-in booster by supplying power down the aerial cable, and this is why you need an external booster as aftermarket units cannot provide this power. The blue wire on the cars loom is not for supplying power at all, it just happens to be the same colour.

To connect yours, if you cannot find the correct pin, just connect the flying blue cable to any switched 12V supply and it will work fine. Do not connect it to a always on supply otherwise it will always be powered and the battery on your car may go flat.

Diagram of original radio in small picture,

large picture shows pinout of VW headunit, but the main ISO connections are the same.

Ok so the wire in the oe loom is not for the ariel? So what about if I cut the connector off of the wire coming from my ariel connector, fit it with a bullet connector and connect it up to the amp remote lead for the minute, would that work?

Yes that will indeed work fine.

Cool. Cheers matey. Just out of interest Pine number A5 says code +12V could I fit it up to that one? As there is nothing in that side of the ISO lead?
