How to check if it's knackered???

Disconnect the electrical connection from the MAF then drive car. If car runs better with it disconnected your MAF is broken.

Is your EML light on? What makes you think there is a problem?

I think you can check it with vcds but not sure how?

depends, mine drove the same with the maf plugged in or unplugged. No lights when it was in. Think if its the same or better with it unplugged its knackered.

Not necessarily. How did the car drive with it unplugged? As Medivac has stated below if it's the same or better then its time for a new one.
