Record mpg and range on a vRS! Shock!

Featured Replies

Pics to follow but done roughly 100 miles and got 425 miles range left! Trip 2 reading 44 mpg! Best i've seen yet lol

Cost me £70 for 47 litres of v-power this morning, damn fuel prices! :(

The higher temperature has an effect on MPG, I guess it's because the ECU detects the warmer less dense air and compensates with less fuel.

Yep, car warms up quicker so optimal running temp must mean better mpg :)

Just picked up a Fabia2 VRS last week but already seeing over 40 mpg with ease. Sometimes need a tweak on the paddles to push it in to 6th or 7th but use to doing this my traded in Octy 7 speed DSG.

How do you get it to take the extra few litres in to the expansion tank when you are looking to fill that area when you know you are going to use it immediately ie the expansion will not occur when full of fuel and be wasted?

Did it once on our other Fabia ie the 1.2 HTP when we got 50 litres in but not quite sure how it happened.

Certainly expecting to see 500 miles plus on the range display. What tyre pressures do you run at?

Can with around 40 all round but I have dropped the fronts down a couple of PSI as I think 35 is tops for thr fronts and 43 or so tops for the backs.

Anyone carrying a full size spare in the back as it looks like it will fit easily as the "space saver" is only 10mm narrower than the standard tyre and same circumference of course?

Using Tescos 99 Ocatane but not given it max throttle as still running in of course.

I thought you should run higher pressure in the fronts, not backs, as thats where the weight is?? Also that sounds a massive difference between the two, usually its just a few psi difference??

I have the full size spare... and havent squeezed fuel in for big tank range , but have seen 61 mpg on my way to work ;) (no lie!) I did reset after the engine warmed up though ;)

2.5 bar all round... no idea what that is in psi.

a normal drive to work without the massive effort will see 45-50 mpg.... but then I have 26,000 miles on. (always super fuel, be it BP or Esso ect, 97 octane)

an "normal" drive enjoting the car will see 28-35 ;)

Yeah driven normally it's about 28-32mpg, stop start traffic I see 25mpg. On a run well past 48mpg

You need to try harder... When I was doing commutes up to scarborough late last year on several trips I managed over 50mpg door to door. Best was 56.6 :-)

On trip 2 I was at about 44mpg before it reset.

Holy crap, I don't know how you guys are managing this?! Even driving like little Miss Daisy, at about 50mph, I manage about 45mpg absolute tops. Day to day driving sees about 30-35mpg.

Me too, but I have only 4700 miles and over 200 bhp, so that's probably the reason.

Question regarding the trip. Why does the average trip reset itself after every day ?

I had a Golf for a while which had a 'global' average which had to be physically reset by the driver.

I know there's an instant reading but I'm obviously talking about setting 1 'average'.

You sure there's no solar panels on the roof ? ;)

with the car running, press the bottom reset switch just quickly without holding it, and it will switch to "trip 2" which doesn't rest ;)

*reset

note: I can use edit function, or fast reply box! :(

Tyre pressure wise I run 34 psi front and rear as per the fuel cap iirc

I'm not sure how it got 47 litres in, just kept my finger on the trigger until I noticed the price!!

Normally fill up with 38 - 40 litres but ran low due to driving to take dog for a walk and had a longer journey straight away to Brighton and back four times - misses on a hen do!

Normal driving as per my fuelly see's 30 ish mpg as I do town driving for work and longer runs at the weekends for fun and shopping lol

On another note, I always reset trip one and two every refuel.

Best iv managed was 45mpg on driving back from hull when i first got it, since then...... I have no idea i just feed the mogwyi when its hungry :)

Best I had was a calculated 48mpg over the tank last summer when it had barely 1000 miles on the clock. Not done a Kent - Cornwall trip since then :D

Still talking absolute rubbish i see....

500miles is around 50mpg. You expect to get that average over a whole tank?! Pull the other one......still waiting for a fuelly log :dull: :dull: :dull:

jrw - look at my fuelly log, best was 48 mpg on a long run from Kent - Cornwall.

I filled up yesterday, range was 410 miles. Drove 100 miles range 425 miles :) So potentially 500 miles, however back to town driving range now at 380 miles lol

I think 500 miles could be done but only if you nursed it - my old MK1 vRS could manage 500 miles if driving like a saint or a nutter no problem.

Oh i appreciate that, but lol is full of :swear:. The buying thread for his furby reckoned he could get 600miles to a tank.....seemingly that thread has gone quiet since he has picked up his car.

His Octy TSI could get 50mpg all day long but he could never prove it.....

Just a little spat thats going on after nearly a year of asking for a fuelly log off him.....which should be easy doing 1000 miles a week. :giggle:

500miles could possibly be doable on a single run i would imagine driving like a nun......500 over a week of cold starts every morning and i would say verging on impossible. 500miles plus and 600 miles as quoted by lol is living in a dream world.

Indeed - having had the car for almost a year and my fuelly will give you an idea of mixed driving mpg :)

Still, I didn't buy it for mpg but its nice to get decent ish figures with the price of fuel.

My parents went for a Yeti 1.8TFSI after the Octavia PD140 and never looked back, more expensive of course but hey ho.

I have only got to drive it for a couple of short ie 10 mile trips when it was showing low 40s but it has only got a couple of hundred miles on it.  "Relagated" to the Octy TSI VRS which sups the fuel on the quick side ie around 38 mpg giving only 450 miles indicated and it is not so easy to coast in etc.  When I do get to do a long run I will see what the Fabia VRS can do.  With the fuel tanker strike looming it is almost enough to want a diesel

Oh, just saw the 'global' average (thanks Dave - Sharkrider) and after 4700 miles it was 32.2 MPG.

That's not bad considering there's been some spirited driving and over 200bhp

thats still good for the performance on offer if its used :) if it was an evo X you's be getting 8-12 ....

ive just managed 43 working it out brim to brim in my polo
