Octy vrs Estate, My New Car

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, thought it would only be polite to post up here a little info about my new car, after all I have learned everything about it from this forum.

Here it is

IMG_1592.jpg

There are two small patches of paint bubbling under the front door sill covers, dealer is submitting a claim to SUK, should get fixed under warranty, other than that Its a lovely example, nice and clean, no dents or major scratches, everything works, full Skoda service history, 200 bhp petrol!

I have a list of questions I want to ask but I will spread them out a bit so I can concentrate on one or two things at the moment.

Ride height.

This is one thing that doesnt look right to me on this car, it looks a bit high, a lot higher than other estates I have seen around, is there any way to tell if it has the correct springs fitted, ie that there not the standard octavia springs.

Im going to want to lower it either way and my budget is around £200, Eibachs lowering springs only drop it 20mm which doesnt seem enough.

How about coil overs, I know these will lower it enough but will the ride comfort be sacrificed? Also are the coilies in this price range better than stock dampers and springs.

My main concern is ride comfort, the ride as it sits now is very smooth, a bit bouncy but not a lot of roll round the bends, would eibachs sustain the current ride characteristics or make it a harder ride.

Wheel spacers.

I have 18" Zeniths and the back wheels do sit quite far in from the side of the car, lowering will make them look more lost.

I dont want to risk buggering up my bearings, is 15mm too much, I think it looks little too much to match the front, maybe 10mm would look better.

Do I need hubcentric for 10mm and 15mm spacers, I read you dont if you get 8mm spacers.

Also anyone recommend me a pair and the correct size of bolts ar at least the length of bolt required to make them work.

Noise

So I have this turbo petrol engine in a sedate looking Estate car, im looking for something that will make it sound a bit more sporty, not got a lot of money to spend in this area so looking for a cheap option, dump valve, induction kit, removing silencers etc.

My brother got wind that I have a turbo petrol and decided to have a look at removing the dv recirc pipe to make it vent to atmospere, im sure its not that easy, is it? where is the dv located, behind the engine I think I saw it.

I know an induction kit will have a bad effect on performance seeing as I can only afford and open cone design so it will suck up all the engine heat, other than that I should upgrade to a pipercross panel filter? and keep airbox standard. I took it apart today to see if I could improve/ drill more holes in it somewhere but decided against it because of where it sits in the engine bay, just gave a it a good clean, it had oil all over it, even inside and down the engine side of the exit pipe. Should I remove and clean MAF sensor?

Styling

There isnt much I want to change about the look of the car other than the ride height.

Tinted windows, wind deflectors are a few little touches that will make the car mine

I did however replace a little orange bulb yesterday to give the below desired affect

Main beams will be next but purely for lack of brightness

Well I hope that wasnt too bad for now, let me know what you think

Looks good.

If your budget is £200 for the suspension your only option really is a set of springs. Yes you can get super-cheap coilovers but there's a strong chance that they're going to be completely **** at that money. I'd go eibachs.

There are other springs available (pagey?) which lower more than the eibachs but you may find the ride quality is poor if you're retaining the stock dampers.

FWIW my weitecs coils were only about £500 quid and are very good for the money.

Personally I'd get the height as you want before you mess around with spacers.

Dump valve? Sorry not my thing. If you want a mod that is cheap and will add some performance AND a little more noise then search on here for "pre-cat removal".

HTH.

Nice looking motor.

Can't help with the rest of the questions, but I know what you mean about the rear wheels sitting inboard. I currently run ET42 wheels on the rear (If original I believe yours will be ET51) along with 15mm spacers which looks much better but do not stick out too far, granted I have a Scout so alot more room under the arch's so as said above you might want to get the ride hight set before trying spacers. To be honest I would recommend hubcentric for any size spacers and you will need a 5x112 pcd bolt pattern with a centre boar of 57.1mm. IIRC I got 42mm bolts to replace the originals for running the spacers but bear in mind there are two different bolt seating designs available, taper (Cone) seat and ball (Radius) seat, I think the latter being the more common on VAG cars (Both my originals and winter Audi alloys use ball seat).

A surprising amount to think about for a set of wheel spacers but I hop this helps.

hi abarth_1200 nice car i have just bought same car couple of weeks ago on an 06 plate aswell , im also looking at lowering mine , whats mileage on yours?

Looks like its going to get a set of eibach springs.

Is the pre cat easy to remove, will it make it sound a bit more sporty, did a search on here, sounds like a good idea.

Hang on can't edit iPhone posts

Yep spacers are a bit of headache to work out unless your sitting with the wheel car and hub to work the size of bolts etc, any issues with wheel bearingS going prematurely

Welcome mate

I should collect mine at the end of the month on a 12 plate

If a dump valve results in the whoosh as you lift off the accelerator then please don't do it!

Unless you are fitting it to a 1.0 Corsa, are 18 years old and work in Halfords / McDonald's :giggle:

That is a very clean vRS by the way, especially for an 06 - good find!

41k nice mileage if you dont mind me asking how much did you pay?

After approx 10k no wheel bearing issues yet but I guess it will add a little extra strain to them.

My car makes the dump valve whoosh noise without any mods, if I made it any louder I think it would sound silly

Ok then guilty pleasure I like the sound of a turbo engine dumping it's boost. It's my first turbo anyway.

Answer to your question, I did pay over the odds for the car, £7600 with 12 month Skoda warranty and years mot, just serviced bla blah.

It is mint, completely standard, just needs a good machine polish to smooth out those swirls.

How does yours make the whoosh noise, what year is it, no upgraded panel filter or anything?

It isn't very loud but you can definitely here it when the windows down. It's a 2.0 TDi PD 140.

That'll be why then it's a diesel.

Mine is PETROL but sounds like diesel!

these 2.0t are quite noisy think due to the injection system
