fabia 2 door mirrors

Featured Replies

Has anyone tried to swap fabia 2 door mirrors for another from the VAG range, with success?

I was fancying adding mirrors with signals built in but did not fancy mucking about, drilling holes and trying to fit a signal of some shape or form in myself, so wondered if anything else goes straight on.

I would much prefere original stuff as I have seen many aftermarket "Kit" type mirrors, where you buy the mirror, then the fitting plate that matches your model.

I needed to stick with the heated electric variety otherwise the project would be worthless.

Any insight would be helpful.

WOW! This thread disapeared up its own backside quick... And without a single reply, sarcastic or genuine!

Surely someone else has wanted to do this too? I am guessing that, had I found a set of mirrors with inbuilt indicator signals from another VAG car, that went straight on with a little bit of wiring in, there would have been a raft of others wanting piccies, tech info etc, spesh all you Vrs/Monti poseurs!

Yes i have often thought about having signals on the wing mirrors and also ones that fold in when you lock the car!.. come on techie guys you must know something!!! :)

I think the laura has indicator on the door mirrors and i am sure the dimensions should be the same, and connecting the door mirrors to the indicator function should be possible by tweaking the old indicator functionality.

Laura is the Octavia for those who does not live in India right Santosh6 ? If so then the side mirrors have different shaped housing. You know the black plastic base that is attached to the door. In Fabia and Roomster it is triangular but in Octavia (Laura) is D shaped. Yet I am not sure if Fabia and Roomster side mirrors are identical far more if pre f/l Fabia / Roomster mirrors are the same to f/l Fabia / Roomster.

I think most (myself included) have steered clear of this because

1) do you 'really' need it

2) it looks like an expensive mod and the money would probably get you a remap

3) it looks like a pain in the ass for very little gained.

Get the point jonny boy but not really interested in a remap as I use the Greenline for driving school pupils so power not an issue. If it had been done, it would either be simple or difficult as if some VAG mirrors fitted straight on, it would only be a straight swap, (Simple enough as replacing a damaged mirror) With a bit of additional wiring to get the signals to work. (Prob simple, feed from the wing flasher, earth anywhere) And Bob's your auntie's hubby. As only a handfull of peeps would do it, it would be a standout feature, without looking like a chav on steriods!

Don't get me wrong, it would probably look nice, but having done this kind of thing some years back, it was indeed a real nightmare job.

One of those jobs where when you start it, it has to be finished.

If it's pretty straightforward then fair enough.

That was why I was only really loking in the VAG area... I recon somewhere, they saved a few bob and used a standard coupling between the mirror and the door frame mount. As the mirrors swivel, there MUST be a way of splitting the parts and re-fitting them. Or even a common door mount. I will keep looking but my car will prob be too old to bother before long!
