  • No problem, mate. Glad to help out. I've been looking into exhausts since my custom one didn't turn out all that well. Simply put, I messed up. Anyway, I was going to buy a Simons exhaust for the vRS

  • we all know what your thinking mate! and have all had similiar experiences with women haha

  • Almost forgot to update. Replaced the radiator and the collant tank. No more coolant level warnings and no more leaking radiator. Took it for a test drive and it ran fine. Speaking of fines. Got back

Ta for the help. I think i'll go with milltek since it ends up being slightly cheaper for the lot with fitting.

also, that little bugger of a brake signal switch died on me. i drove it home by using hand signals. the coppers were a bit miffed, but aside from a stern "fix it quick", it was fine. gonna pick up a new switch on Monday.

btw, anyone know where the little bugger is hiding?

EDIT:

Found it. Off to Din Bil on Monday.

if you dont mind me saying so, one thing i think would imrpove the look on the car is some new alloys! :)

Nah, I agree. Only I just bought a new set of tires for it. Kinda a waste to swap now.

As for rims, I have three sets. 16 inch BBS, 17 inch matte black steelies and 17 inch Volvo R fakes. The BBS is s straight fit, but they're coated bight pink, the steelies must be modded to fit the fabia, and one of the R rims are damaged. Its salvageable though. I'm actually leaning towards the steelies atm.

Update:

I swapped out the brake light switch yesterday, and assembled everything. Set me back 12 quid. Skoda wanted 110 quid for the repair. Two words for 'em, bite me.

Managed to a drive into a massive hole in the asphalt today when some dimwit cut me off. Car drives fine, but there is some kind of dodgy sound coming from the front. It resembles plastic flopping around somewhere, but I cant find anything. It's only present at speeds over 40mph, under that, I have yet to hear it. Something is definitely loose though, you can feel the vibrations in the wheel and pedals.

I'm gonna jack it up and like at the suspension. While it doesn't pull to the side, it was one helluva bang. I have no idea if i damaged something. The struts are already hanging on by a thread.

Undertray? Wheel arch liner maybe?

So I did a little stress testing today, took the car around the track. Now you can hear it when you drive slowly as well. I asked my mate to drive past me, to hear the sound from the outside and it came from the wheel. I jacked it up and it seems like the front right wheel bearing kicked the bucket. You can hear it when you turn the wheel manually.

So it looks like I'm cashing out 80 quid for new wheel bearings. This car is seriously starting to annoy me.

Yeah, what bugs me the most is that they buy a 60k quid car, and then they can't drive the bloody thing. I mean, if you cant learn where your cars begins and where it ends, don't buy an SUV. Am I right or am I right?

Either way, I wont need this car much for a while now anyway, so it doesn't matter if I leave it disassembled or do any major mods on it. I'm gonna fix up the body and install a decent ICE before I do the wheel bearing or anything else. I have a list of parts I'm gonna buy in the Czech Republic and Hungary this summer, the prices are half what I would pay here in Sweden. So she might be stuck with the bad bearing until mid august. I'm probably going to pick up a set of the new skoda badges as well.

Also, I'm probably going to install a PDRC / Carputer (Panasonic Toughbook CF-29MK5)

It seems my magic touch has stuck again. I disassembled it to make sure i have the right part, took a photo and the assembled it again. And now its fine, no weird noises, no scratching, nowt.

Also, I noticed a number of spots where gravel nicked the paint and it has started to rust. Took off the two front fenders for fixing, but I'm going to touch up the threshold as a preventative measure. I think the previous owners lived in quarries. Otherwise the car survived the swedish winters admirably. 120k miles and twelve years worth of swedish road salt, and its got close to no rust. I've seen cars half that age and mileage rust through.

She's now been banished to the garage, and my dads Saab was evicted. Quite frankly, it wouldn't dare leave it outside like this, parts would start to go missing.

I'll give you a tip - get the wheel bearing done as soon as you can - or expect lots of swearing and the use of a blowtorch to get the hub off due to it 'welding' on from increased heat generated by shot bearings.

Trust me on this - I was stung by this on one of the rears and it was an absolute ballache.

I disassembled the front right wheel assembly and when I put it together, the sound was gone. I'm gonna do a run on the track once I get the body done to see if I can force the noise again. But so far, 100km high/low speed driving and I hear nowt. Inside or outside. I'm starting to think it might not have been the bearing, my brake pads doesn't fit 100% and it might have been that pad that was pressed against the disc. I swapped back to stock and i'm gonna use 'em for a while just to make sure.

For the record, the car wont be moving much for a while now anyway, so even if its the bearing, it wont make a difference. I do however recognize the "welding" you spoke of. Happened to me on the Peugeot a while back. I was praying like there was no tomorrow for like ten laps, and it was a pain to remove it afterwards.

EDIT: Btw, that you in your avatar? I like the hair.

Edited by DaKKs_152

Yup, that's me - had that hair for the last... 4 years nearly now. Lol!

Car fixed. No more noises, shaking and all those lovely things. Aside from a spare fuse that's rattling around in the fuse box...

Now, I'm not planning anything major until august. Aside from another attempt at a remap and possibly a new interior, the car is going to remain as it is. I'm gonna buy most of the parts in CZ and Hungary where its a lot cheaper, but that's not until mid July.

Cheers

Look good, big improvement in sound?

Compared to the two cracked speakers in mine, or the two working ones in my mates Fabia?

Joke aside, massive improvement. The stock speakers are crap IMHO. Disappointing doesn't quite cover it.

New front fender tracked down, will be ordered soon.

What currently in the plnning stages:

Black rims

Black hood

Proper remap

and the above mentioned parts

I only have sporadic internet access atm because i'm on vacation. (no phones, no internet, no computers, just the way i like it.) So there wont be any updates anytime soon. Not until mid-august at least.

After suicidal romanians, 4 tons of rat arsed brits, speed addicted germans, sleeping polish lorry drivers and 2300 more kilometers on the meter, i've arrived at home without loss of life or limb. Bloody miracle...

Also, she started without issues after a month. Had to pump the brakes and rev to 4k in order to get it to move, but she purred like a kitten.

Bought some other parts as well this last week. Coolant tank, drum brakes, left front fender and i put down an order on a set of coilies.

Got an Favorit logo for free, any idea of what i can do with it? I got the new logos front and back. Its kinda redundant. Looks good though, for a peice of plastic.

Pics will be posted once i clear out the car and get my computer systems up and running. I'm stuck with a 12 yo Powerbook G3 atm.

Hey ... I am just wondering how you were able to connect to the ecu. I have been trying to do that for quite some time and it was a massive disappointment. I would like to remap the car too but I have no idea what hardware I should get and how.

Oh, that's a good one. I have no bloody clue. Honestly, I'm a tin smith, (i think that's the english word for it anyways), I don't do remaps or ECU programming. I can check with my sister, ECU's is her domain, but she's out of commission atm.

EDIT: Now that i'm back, anyone have an idea why the handbrake would simply stop working? The wiring is fine, so are the brakes.

It failed the MOT because of this. But I cant find the issue. The wires under the center console are a bit crooked, but they've been like that since i bought the car and the handbrake has worked fine so far.

Use a bit of WD40 and check the drums them selves. Maybe the cable got sticky at that end because you left it for a while or maybe corrosion made the drums sticky a bit.

I really need the help with programming. What software your using and what kind of hardware? Moreover, I read that you checked the car system for faults. I want to be able to do that too.

Ta, mate.

As I said, I cant help you with ECU programming. Regarding diagnostics, I'm using a Bosch diagnostic tablet at the workshop, and a Toughbook CF-29MK5 with VCDS at home.

If you just want to check and erase DTC's, you can use a VAG COM 409 cable off ebay (10 quid or so) and VCDS lite. It works for basic stuff.

The same cable also works splendidly with FreeSSM, which is another OBD diagnostic software. Thats what I use, VCDS and FreeSSM, hasn't failed me yet.
