Bluetooth and towbars!

Featured Replies

Not together!

Picked up my fantastic V6 3.6 yesterday and great run home. Now sorting things out and struggling with two areas:

Bluetooth - i am not v experienced with this but have a Blackberry Curve that seems to find the car alright but the connection fails. I input the 16digit code, the phone shows a connection with BTSkoda and flashes blue. The car shows "connecting" in the MFD and then comes up with "Connection not possible". I have encryption turned off on the phone and am not sure what to try next.

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

I need a towbar fitted asap and have just spoken to the fitter. Detachable is £300 more than fixed! I don't mind which but he is concerned that the reversing sensors may not work despite the factory fitted "towbar preparation" that I hoped would get around that problem! Do fixed towbars always get picked up by the sensors on these cars?

Thanks for any help,

Regards to all,

Adjan

If the correct box is used with the factory towbar prep, then it will turn off the sensors, so long as the recoding is done. At least that's how I have read it, and why I paid for the factory prep. Unfortunately I don't even have a build date so can't tell you from 100% experience that it does work, only that it should.

For the bluetooth, there is a thread somewhere, but you may need to pair in a diferent way.

I have just had a westfalia fixed swan neck towbar (Ref 317104) fitted to my 2012 Superb hatch, and can confirm that the parking sensors do not pick up the bar. I believe that the detachable one is identical in shape.

To be honest, I had a detachable put on my previous car, a 2009 Ford Mondeo because of sensors but they never picked up the towbar when it was it place.

I did do lots of testing with objects where the bar would be and sensors didn't pick up.

Hope that helps.

Mind you, I don't understand how come the detachable is £300 more than a fixed. The skoda accessory detachable is only £240 including VAT, and fitting ought to be the same or cheaper (no need to bolt on the swan neck). It's possible to source a Westfalia detachable for around £170, the cheapest fixed from the same place being £75 plus a towball, so less than £100 difference. Can I suggest asking why the outrageous difference in price, or at least ask for a second opinion.

I paid £250 for my fixed swan neck westfalia fitted with 13 pin electrics (not a dedicated wiring kit). I live in County Durham in the North East England.

I paid £425 for a detachable fitted with dedicated kit and 13 pin electrics.

I got a Westfalia detachable fitted in Ireland recently for €485 incl full genuine electrics.

For me anyway when I reverse with the towbar and no trailer the sensor picks it up in one zone.

When the trailer is connected the whole thing lights up.

Anyone know the code to have the sensors turn off when the trailer lights are connected.

Adie - A fixed bar should be OK with the sensors. I believe the Witter fixed flange towbar may be upgradable so if you had a fixed bar fitted and found the sensors were picking up the towbar you can change the neck section to a detachable. Another option would be a swan neck towbar as this would be around the same price as the standard flange type but would make it less likely the towbar would interfere with the sensors.

The factory prep does not have any relation as to whether the fixed bar will be picked up by the towbar, the prep is generally just half of the wiring loom run from the front to the back of the car, making the wiring installation easier as there is no need to route cables to the front.

Dfsuperb - a towbar company with an Autologic Diagnostic recoding tool could re-code the car, either that or someone with VAG-COM would be able to recode it at a cost a lot less than the dealers would. As it sounds like your vehicle hasn't had a software update for the towbar you may also be missing an indicator bulb fail warning on the dash as this may also need to be programmed in. You can test this by plugging your trailer in and taking out an indicator bulb and then putting the relevant indicator on on the car. You should have a bulb fail light show up on the dash and the indicator would flash at double rate.

Hope this info helps.

Oh, so I'll still have to get the interface box then. I kind of expected that would be included too at the price.

I need to run wiring to the front in any case, as I want to have split charge / run the fridge. Has anyone done this / had it done, and if so where's a good place to pick up the feed? I don't have the car yet so haven't been able to have a look.
