Any ideas where to start?

Featured Replies

Hi All

Had the following problem the other day which is discussed on another topic:

"I've had my 2007 2.0tfsi VRS for 3 weeks and all has been well....until today.

Took the car out for a short drive at lunch and it felt hesitatant and almost a slight kangaroo effect, no engine management light showing though.

However I jumped in the car to come home and the engine management light came on and the car was idling very roughly for a few minutes and then settled down. The drive home wasn't too bad though except a slight hesitancy but not really terrible by any means."

So the day after the engine management light went out and I sucessfully drove to Manchester and back (over 9hours of driving) with the only problems being a slighly lump idle when stationary. But I still thought i'd better take it in to Skoda for them to read what the problem was previously and stored in the Canbus.

So today I've had the diagnostics checked and it's thrown up the following errors:

1089 22 EVAP EMISSION CONTR.SYS INCORRECT PURGE FLOW (LOWER LIMIT NOT REACHED INTERMITTENT)

12599 1 INTAKE MANIFOLD RUNNER CONTROL (IMRC) BASIC SETTINGS NOT CARRIED OUT (UPPER LIMIT EXCEEDED)

1602 2 SENSOR REFERENCE VOLTAGE "A" CIRCUIT LOW (LOWER LIMIT NOT REACHED INTERMITTENT)

The dealers seem most interested in error 12599 but say as it's an intermittent fault it could be hard to trace. They will require around £135 to carried out the test plans to see if they can trace a fault. It seems to be a fault related to the throttle body. At the moment i've asked them to clear the faults (which they have done) and I will wait to see if it happens again. The idle still is not silky smooth but then again i've read quite a bit about the FSI engine not being particulary smooth.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what the fault could be? Could a coil pack cause these faults, they didn't seem to think it was related to the coil at all.

Any advice would be welcome

Thanks

Mark

i would suspect the breather on front of cylinder head common

these throw up codes for lambda and evap

Hi mate, The chances are the EVAP cannister has 'had it' as they are prone to failing. As for the throttle fault if it was me id do a re-alignment to see if that made any difference, ive done it on a few VAG cars to cure a number of throttle faults such as rough idle, slight missing, poor mpg, and one car wouldnt even start until it was done!

Thanks very much for the replies.

Can I please ask...what issues does the EVAP cannister cause? Are they expensive to replace?

Secondly how do I perform a throttle re-alignment?

Thanks

The filter inside the cannister cloggs up, a gentle tap seems to keep the engine light at bay for a few weeks lol they cost just under £90 alone. As for throttle body adaptation/re-alignment it can only be done at a Skoda dealer or using VCDS another member may be able help you out on that one. Hope that helps.

Had this not so long ago, I think that the last two codes relate to the manifold runner motor. The faults on this one were intermittent, replaced the manifold motor and it was sorted.

Agreed, the manifold runner one is pretty common, will require a new motor and resetting.

The evap canister doesn't normally clog up as such meaning it gets blocked but eventually it does run out. The charcoal inside wil absorb fuel vapour to a point then that's it. there is quite a long diagnostic guide on desktop for techs to check and diagnose the system.

It's a massive relief to finally find people who have had the same codes. Sounds like it's worth a punt to replace it straight away, My performace is so irratic at the moment, sometimes good and sometimes poor and on the odd occasion I can put the pedal to the floor and no nothing seems to happen, pretty much feels like driving with the handbrake on.

Can anyone tell me how much the motors are?

Thanks, I keep reading the american websites about extended warranty covering the inlet runner motor however can't seem to see anything to confirm this on any uk sites.
