Replacing rear shocks on a 4x4 how to?

Featured Replies

Ok. New shocks have arrived for the rear of the skip. Bilstein B6's, all nice and yellow/blue :D hope to get the fronts next week.

What is the correct procedure for removing and replacing?

Is it better to do with wheel off the ground with spring compressors and a jack under the hub or on the ground/ramps so the springs are loaded?

Only thing that worries me is there appears to be a bit of a twist in the bush at the top which is going to cause the bolts to not line up easily, what tool do you recommend to lever/twist shock into place.

Is there a link to any good how to's? Tried google for octy 4x4, a3 and tt Quattro, golf 4motion and r32 but no luck, plenty for the a4 quattro though.

TIA

Karl

Hi Karl, did you ever have any success finding a guide for replacing the rear shocks on your 4x4? I have to do the same on mine! Tried to PM you but it said you can't receive any more messages (so I presume your inbox is full).
