Can bus windows and door locks

Featured Replies

I am pretty sure that my 1999 oct 1 has a K type bus for the engine, air bag and abs. However am I correct in thinking that it has a can bus system for the convenience system .i.e. electric windows and central locking?

I have used a k type cable and vcds lite to read the engine, airbag and abs systems without a problem but the convenience system eludes me!

My problem is this...I changed the window closing mechanism many moons ago on the off side rear door. All went well. Recently I changed the one on the near side rear and as I was fitting a new door foil I thought that I would do the one on the off side rear which had been slightly damaged in the previous encounter.

All went well with the near side door. Job done :) Unfortunately after I had reassembled the off side door, the offside window wasn't responding to the local switch, although it was responding to the drivers control switch. The door was then closed and guess what? It won't open again. I've tried disconnecting the battery for ten minutes..no improvement. I've tried manually locking the car and holding the key for a few seconds in each position...no improvement.

The locking indicator button rises when I pull the internal handle but doesnt unlock the door. Anybody got any suggestions? Does the controller need resetting? Is it a mechanical problem? Is there an easy way off opening the door? Am I an idiot for messing with something that wasn't really broken? Yes.. Please help

Just to complete this item. The problem turned out to be a broken wire in the area between the door post and the door. Also had the same problem previously on the other rear door. Suggest if the door locks shut that you drive around for a few days and see if this provides a momentary reconnection of the fractured wire and hence opens the door. Got to be better than trying to open a locked door!
