DPF delete...Stage 0 - Shark Performance

Featured Replies

Well, finally bit the bullet and had my vrs pd170 in at shark for a stage 0 dpf delete. I've been umming and arring over this for a few months (see previous threads) but decided when my dash lit up like a christmas tree last week that, enough was enough.

I've read a lot about this, good and bad, and was unsure even as late as this morning, whether to keep the appointment. Took a while to get there (in limp mode) but was greeted by Rob and Mark with a brew, they got on with the work striaght away. I thought mark (the mechanic) was great, he popped into the waiting room a few times to update on progress, gave the car a good once over and explained clearly what he was doing, in detail. I thought the way he explained how the dpf worked, pro's and cons, how they effect other makes and why the effect the vag pd170 in particular was superb. I've read (on the net) about these things a million times, but now think I have a far better understanding due to mark's explanations. He was under no pressure to complete and had a very good attention to detail in his work.

The map went smoothly, no extra power from standard (not really what I wanted) but I now I can now goto stage 1 / 2 really easily (and without the long journey with the sts) The dpf light didnt clear immediately (engine management and coil light did) and Miko explained clearly why and what needed to happen in order to clear the light. We then went for a long test drive in the car, in order to check the job was good and not other issues were lurking around. During the test drive, Rob explained what was going to happen (i.e dfp % reduction and light off) and the vag com showed exactly that, took about 20 mins to get from 96% (as it was on arrival) to 4%, light cleared at around11%

Car definitely feels much smoother, slightly more in the mid range, it really wasnt intended to improve bhp but more to give me a more pleasurable driving experience (I really dont think the car's driven right since I've owned it) Immediately improvement in mpg,

Generally very happy with the service, it was a full day but I was impressed at how they insisted the job be absolutely 'right' before sending me on my way.....would definitely recommend

Thanks Rob, Miko, Mark and Ben

Sounds like a great service, was ur dpf fully blocked and if so how or was it ur driving style?

What year milage is ur vrs ?

Do u mind me asking how much it cost?

Great review, glad you are pleased with the results!

My dpf problems started when I bought the car in November, the dealer (non skoda) put a new dpf in but the problems never really went (dpf regens almost every 48 hours - poor fuel economy - running like ****) It went to skoda in december for the injector recall and I thought I would give these a chance to bed in, hoping it would help, but it didnt. I then started thinking it was my driving style and the pd vrs wasnt the car for me, but last month I've done a lot more long distance commuting yet it really didnt improve the problems, so I really dont know what it was down to. Mark explained that all manufacturers of modern deisel cars just havent 'got it right' yet, in terms of dpf technology.

Cars on 88k, full dealer history.

Work cost £450, well worth it IMHO. I called skoda last week when the lights come on, they quoted £90+vat to plug it in, I couldnt bring myself to pay the £110 + whatever else they find, to get the car returned back in exactly the same way it went it.

Did they leave the casing of the DPF in? So essentially it looks like it is still there?

I think VAG should do something about the DPF on PD issue as the internet is plagued with threads for problems.

At least they sorted it out on the CR's. Apart from the odd dodgy 'Made in the USA' sensors, there have been hardly any issues.

It's still not perfect tho on the cr,have I not heard a few lately with dpf light coming on?i know of 2 cr 1.6s with dpf light s on and off some times.

I think the delete is the only way in the end.

I haven't seen anything on here apart from the dodgy sensor?

You will get the odd regen on any DPF equipped car if your journies warrant it (ie not enough to burn the soot off naturally).....but as for failures, i haven't heard of any...

  • 1 year later...

am booked in Wednesday and my main reason was due to skoda struggling to regen last time and said it may need a new one £2000 hell no!!

had been thinking and speaking on here for a while and so i went with dpf removal, stage 1 remap and erg removal its like £700 with my freedom discount

bloody not cheap but way cheaper than a failed dpf, am not looking forward to drive Mansfield haven't got a clue where it is lol

anyway i know this topic is old but was wandering how the car has been since ??

Kindest Regards,

Stephen

Funny enough I was talking to my mate the other day who is an MOT tester. He has just carried out his 3 day refresher course and they touched on DPF delete etc.

Now there is a visual check of the DPF if the car should have one from the factory, so it is advisable to have a block removal so that it looks like it still has a DPF.

However if the tester is a sod - they are entitled to use an inspection mirror, so it is a remote possibility that it could be failed if they see the weld repair from a block removal.

I get my mot from family's mercanic and as long its all passes the test

Its fine ( however saying that bloody failed me exhaust on last car) so no perks for me lol

But am happy that way I'd rather have proper healthy and safety car :)

Just had dpf removed and egr value blank plus remap

And the car now feels worst ??? Does car take time to bed in ??

So you have been to Shark and you reckon it's worse? Are you sure as I would think that they would let you take it for a test drive before setting off home ?

No there was no test drive however they where quite busy

Too be fair I changed psi back 38 which I like and that made it feel better

However my gf has know driven it and she said its well better more fun to drive it does smell more know as well like

its just me, anyway it wasn't about the remap more getting dpf rid I do a proper review in about week

When I have a chance to wear it in so to speak lol

i have decided am goona test it for a full week to see if it smooths out, i think there may be problems with other parts of the car

as am getting a noise from the exhausted and some juddering though the car at certain rev ranges more when foot comes off the peddle

any one had a remap on this car had similar problems after ??
