Shark sts

Featured Replies

Has anyone used one of these systems ?

Am a bit tight on wanting to splash out the £399 plus vat and was wondering if the sts unit was a good buy and delivers the same thing as the remap apart from your not getting a rolling road i presume ?

I no its not good to skimp on cheap mapping but since all i have heard about shark thought it might be a good buy .

Any comments would be good and taken on board .

Yes. I have a shark stage 1 and I also bought the STS unit.

Its very easy to use and means you can get a bespoke map for your car without having to travel - just download the oe map, email to shark and get your performance map sent back to you.

STS also means you can revert to stock whenever you want, plus read fault codes.

Recommend 100%.

:)

Also, the standard remap doesn't include a rolling road (unless you request and pay for one anyway).

So if you purchase and sts do you still have to pay for a remap when you email your map to them ?

Sorry am a novice with this area !

why would you need a bespoke map for stage 1?

Yes,

Edit: You can't pay £150 for the STS unit and expect to get the £400 map free. :)

Lol i didnt no hence why i was asking ! Thanks for clearing that up thats what i presumed !

Why not?

The point is, the shark map is your own map with shark adjustments, where some other tuners you'd just get a generic one-size-fits all map.

That's my understanding anyway. Might be wrong. 02p etc. Your mileage may vary. Home may be repossessed etc etc.

:)

The STS is great. Easily revert your car to standard if it needs to go into a garage you don't trust or you've someone else driving it. Plus you get the immobiliser map, rendering your car immovable even with the keys (handy if you are on holiday etc).

As said the STS is £150 then you pay for which ever map you require, the unit can hold 3 files, mine has stage 1, stock map and an immobilizer. If you look in the for sale section on here and the MK5golfgti forum you can sometimes pick up used STS's for under a ton, but you WILL need to go to Shark for the map still.

I only went for mine due to Shark's HQ being a few hundred miles away, the bugger of it though, a couple of months after getting it W8 Performance opened as a Kent dealer. :(

Personally if I was you, I would look at travelling to a Shark dealer if it's not to far (there are 2 or 3 across the country now) I understand you can read fault codes but it is very limited, for an extra 100 quid you could get VCDS for that. The only other advantage is you can flash it back to standard if the car goes in for any warranty work, or ECU update. Mine is now just gathering dust......

LOL, yea don't do the silly thing and load that and think oh god I've ****ed my car :giggle:

Mine too, but I live miles away and was part of a GB so decided what the hell. Also I would like another skoda so I might as well keep it for mapping the next

I have an STS I don't need anymore and would be happy to sell it cheap. I assume that's ok with shark but I shall check. PM me if you want it.

Have you switched you car back to standard? The STS is locked to your car and can only be unlocked if the car is put back to stock! W8 Performance came to me a few weeks ago to tweak the stage 2 on my vRS, while he was down we tried (in vain) to first upload the performance map from swmbo's Golf, then revert it to standard via STS, then re install the performance map, that way I could reset the STS and sell it on, alas it was an epic fail! :'(

Would definitely be interested fella.

Yes back to stock now. Does that mean it will work for someone else?

Yep, should be OK. I would just drop Shark a courtesy call / email & confirm. Will give the buyer peace of mind too.

Nick, what happened mate?

I would rather have a map that's been tested and proven. For stage 1 with no other mods it is one size fits all.

Got an S4 being delivered at the end of the month. Being built this week. I went back to stok during the bad weather and left it that way knowing it make the S4 seem even better. It still actually feels quite pokey without the map to be honest.

Fair doos bud, nice choice of car to replace it. I'm still loving mine , but then again mine was only 105bhp to start with, lol

To be fair I do still love my skoda. It is a great car for the money. I spec'd a ford focus the other day and it came to 24k for the 1.6T. A vrs costs less I think. Crazy.
