changed turbo now oil level is rising

Featured Replies

Hi about a month ago my octavia blew a turbo i have had a recon unit fitted and the car drove ok for a short while but then started smoking i checked the oil and it was way above the max. i thought the garage had put to much in so i drained it to a normal level and the smoking stopped but having driven about another 80 miles the oil level has gone up and the damn thing is smoking again, about 2 months ago i had a new cam belt and kit fitted and i noticed my mpg had dropped from 50ish mpg to 45 mpg does anyone think my belt change has led to 1st turbo failure and is going to lead to the new 1 failing due to timing being not quite right Help im stuck. Dont know what to do next. thanks in advance for any help.

If the oil level is rising something must be getting into the sump to raise the level. Check the water level and condition of the oil for contamination.

Are you checking the oil level of even ground and the same place each time?

If the timing belts are out it will affect performance, but shouldn't affect the turbo.

Hi moley thanks for quick reply yep checked on level ground, water level is ok so i can only assume its diesel but where from?

i would do a compression test as a start

Stop driving it! You're getting diesel going into the sump!

Did they touch the injectiors?

If diesel is gettin into the sump then it will be washing the oil meanin it will no longer act as an effective lubricant! I wouldn't drive the car and get on to who ever was doin the work for you cause somethin wasn't done right

no work done on injectors but just started it and the smoke has stopped but the car gets up to running temp much quicker than it ever has i can watch the needle go up to half in less than a mile which isnt its normal warm up time it stops on half way and not overheating

Could be a partly blocked cat.

It sounds like your timing is advanced near its limits you need to get it checked with vag com if you have non pd engine this can be corrected easily. it may be just as easy on a pd but I have never done this job on one.

The tandem pump can leak on those putting diesel into the engine.
