s3 lower strut brace

Featured Replies

I just bought one from Audi and have realised that a lot of people us the genuine bolts and riv nuts. I haven't bought these and don't want to pay for Audi nuts and bolts! So was wonderin do you need to use riv nuts and can normal locking nuts do the trick?

Cheers lads

No you need riv nuts m8. Think they act like captive nuts once installed, can't do it with normal nuts

Does this mean I need a special tool to install the riv nuts? And does this mean once the bar is in its not coming out?

The bolts and riv nuts aren't that much from the dealer any way. You can take the bar off again but the riv nuts will still be there.

Sorry my dad just corrected me thought the bar was rivetted to the car! There still cheaper from a builders providers or motor factors!

Thanks lads

There only a couple of quid for rivet nuts and bolts,

You use the bolts to pull down the rivets into the subframe

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for the lower strut brace from Audi?

Cheers

Err think i paid about 22 quid altho wish i'd gone to wickes and bought a length of 3mm straight bar and cut it down and drilled a couple of holes in it for what it is

went to audi dealer the other day and its currently about 58 quid.

Surely you could also get a bit thicker and have a stronger one too..?

Wonder what the dimensions of a lower brace are. Tempted to make a little run of them and hock them for a few quid each.

I've got a cupra R subframe in shed with brace still fitted to it, ill wip it off and get dimensions of it and get some pics up before i put subframe up for sale

Brilliant. Might be a neat little timewaster for my man-Sundays. :D

I'd be intrested in one if you make a batch?

The bends on each end of the brace are slightly different on mine, fitted no probs.

Just keep that in mind if/when fabricating.

View front front egde, think brace has been bashed abit going on bolts

View front top, appears to have a bump in it but am sure the one on my vrs that i bought last year doesn't have it

That's brilliant, nothing to it really! How big are the bolt holes?

Could get bolts out at home will take it to work tommorow and put power gun behind then see if i can get brace off as it looks like bolts have seen a few speed humps in there time.

Think there m10 bolts i do have a set somewhere for my referbed subframe

Hi! I think fabricating one wouldn t be tough....

As far as the dimensions concerned....original S3 strut is

Lenght 66cm

Width 3cm

Thickness 0,3 cm

Bolt holes center to center 62cm

Is that correct ???...Is the bar completely straight?

I m thinking to use a stainless steel bar of 5cm wide and at least 0,5cm thick.

What do you think?

i will take one (if the price is rite lol).

I'm sure someone has made there own on here before I can't remeber who? My Dad is a fabricator so i'm going to pass these plans onto him and see if he can sort something, just one question tho, Isnt there a slight bend in the bar were it goes under the dog mount??

Its like a tube thats been squashed but its been more squashed where it goes under dogbone and edges where it bolts to subframe,

Ive been so busy and not having a garage hasnt helped with weather been so bad
