Fuses on a fabia

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me where the fuses are located on a fabia VRS before i start rooting through the car. I think the interior light one has gone as all the interior lights have stopped working.

I have been messing around the car installing a head unit and other items and I think I may have tripped something so before looking elswhere i want to check the fuses.

Right hand end of the dashboard, open driver's door, panel on the end of the dash - gently prise off the cover and voila. ;)

Obvious question is, the light switch isn't just set to "all off" is it?

Many thanks for the quick reply

All the lights were working earlier unless I touched something, I was messing with the nearside rear where the boot light (looking fo an earth) is and I don't know if having touched the light by mistake (yes it was hot) I have shorted something. However, asking a silly question where is the 'all off'? If it's on the roof light then I haven't touched it. It just seems a bit of a mystery to me.

On the slider button on the switch near the rear view mirror its got three settings - on all the time (right all the way I think) - All off (middle) - and only to come on when doors open (left all the way I think...)

However if the boot internal light is not working as well, then it sounds like a fuse - especially if it was on at one point, then all went dead. :)

From memory I think you'll have to get the handbook out in any case since there's a lot of fuses in the in-car fuse box. The cover's not easy to get off without damaging the soft plastic of the fascia; note there's a notch towards the bottom - try putting a cloth wrapped screwdriver blade in there and twisting carefully. Once you've had it off once, you'll see where the clips are and it'll be a bit easier the next time...

There's a similar cover on the left hand end of the fascia though no more fuses are revealed! - useful for hiding things though... :)

The poor man's trying to source an electrical problem in his car - got no time for any of that has he? :naughty:

But a big  for the cloth wrapped screwdriver technique - comes in handy for taking door cards off too. :)

That thought crossed my mind when I was originally writing those words - but it doesn't take too long, does it? Wrap it, push it in, and twist! :D Enough!!!

Always practise safe sex in Fabias!

Keeps the seats clean too

Sorry I didn't reply earlier been out for the day down to Maidstone.

Thanx people for the advice had a look at the fuses and it was a fuse ( very small 10 amp) but I am now worried why it blew, is it a bigger problem? I will change the fuse and see what happens.

No it tends to do that. I've had to replace it 3 times when mucking around with a new stereo. It's the S line fuse or something and it's related to the ignition.

Don't worry unless the replacement fuse blows. I would guess that you didn't disconnect the battery when 'playing around' and a fuse has blown when something made contact which shouldn't have.

It is difficult to read the fuse numbers in the box. I drew this pikky from my 2002 Elegance with a view to sticking it on the inside of the cover together with the list of fuses from the manual. Maybe it is aslo useful for the VRS.

Very useful - I'll check it out - but the two cars must be very similar.

Interesting that the Fabia has far more fuses than the Octavia. I see too from VAG-COM software that it also has more modules to scan.

(Sits back and waits for someone to point out that it is a later design and hence more sophisticated electronically).

only fuse problems I have had are

1. the 12V power output socket (fag lighter) doesn't like anything to be plugged in without the fuse blowing. Phone charger, rechargeable torch, cool box, it's all the same the fuse blows.

2. i had several electrical faults in the first week or two. Found that many of the fuses were loose. It is worth checking that all your fuses are located properly.

Checked the fuses are in properly I am going to uncouple each new item i have installed and see if that makes a difference.I may have caught a short somewhere or somethings touching. Put a multimeter on in the fuse connection and it went off the scale!

The Fabia "cigarette lighter socket" has a max power rating of 180 watts. While the charger and torch might be under that figure the cool box might be over it. That said I have no problems with my tyre compressor. Haven't tried the TV yet...
