Waiting for new Scout to arrive

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I've been passing time reading old threads for ages and got back to 2009 I think, so I thought I should make my own!

Still have another six to eight weeks to wait and I ordered it back in January  Still, at least I know it's been built now and is just sitting, waiting for it's 'ride' to Australia.

Is anyone else waiting for their new Scout, or Octavia? Anyone wish they were? This is my first Skoda, they are not very well known over here. I was determined to find a nice SUV made in Europe and eventually found the Scout while looking at a Tiguan.

I've gone for:

Platin grey

Diesel

Manual

Electric seats

Tow bar and plug

Full privacy glass

Spotlights

MDI

All mats and boot liner

Light/bonnet protectors

Not sure how the prices and specs compare but I've paid $44,000 Aust.

I'm still waiting for my new Octavia (Elegance Estate 2.0 140 PS TDI manual in petrol blue) - it's been sitting at the Docks @ Emden for over a week gathering seagull doings and according to the shipping schedules it will be there for at least another week yet.  Unfortunately I'm in Scotland which means they ship via Tyne (Newcastle) about once every two weeks instead of Grimsby which has about 5 or 6 boats a week from Emden at the moment.

All organised by penny-pinching accountants in VW logistics.  I do appreciate these costs add up however if I order something from Amazon I can get it delivered when it suits me - if I want it tomorrow I pay more for express delivery.  Why can't VW Group offer us an 'express' delivery service where we pay for the difference in transport from Grimsby vs. Newcastle?   With ten cars on a transporter it can't be more than £100ish / car .... all this means my new Octavia isn't going to be here before I do 1000 mile trip with the family all squashed into my wife's Fabia.

Rant, rant, grumble grumble - I know you'll have to wait months for it to turn up in Aus ....

Waiting for my 1.6TDI Estate in Candy White to be built in a couple of weeks then another three more weeks to delivery. Hopefully with me by the end of May - looking forward to that new car smell. :)

It wouldn't be so bad but the dealers tell you X date when they want your money but when you've signed on the dotted line, all of a sudden there are delays that are never fully explained. If they were up front to start with it wouldn't be so frustrating.

Even worse for you guys when the vehicle is only just down the road (sort of). That would drive me nuts.

The worst part for me will come when it's actually landed in Brisbane and I have to wait for VW and customs and tranpsort inspectors etc to all do their mucking around. That will take 2 or 3 weeks they tell me and then I have to wait for it to be transported up to Townsville, and then wait again while they fit all the last minute bits.

Ah well. It'll be worth the wait I hope. Plus it gives me time to sell the old car I guess. I also want to look around and see if I can find the double sun visors you guys get (I think) and see if I can get a set fitted over here. You would think in a country that's drenched in sunlight we would have those as standard on all vehicles. :)

I've got a Scout (search for Satin Grey Scout on Photobucket) and love it - I'm sure you won't be disappointed. It will also be quite a rare car I guess in manual. It's really well designed for the unsealed roads in Oz - we don't have many in the UK although I have had a bash around forest tracks in various places.

We don't get the double sun visors in the UK either for some reason - I don't know whether its something to do with type approval.

What are the spotlights and protectors like - we don't get these either. Otherwise I didn't find much that needed modification after delivery - if you have standard headlights it might be worth upgrading the bulbs to Osram Nightbreaker or similar - also I found mine needed adjusting as they were set far too low on dip. I also replaced the luggage compartment lights (crummy 5w bulbs) with some surface mount LEDs from eBay - they look OEM and very bright.

I have to get the spotlights fitted by the dealer as an 'extra', menaing I buy them and he fits them.  I don't know which to get yet, something decent but not too heavy as they have to fit on top of the licence plate on a special bracket.

The dealer said the protectors are the same for the ordinary Scout as there isn't any difference between that and the 4X4, I haven't seen them yet though.

I will keep in mind the luggage comparment lights, thanks for that tip!  LEDs are much nicer.

Just checked the track and trace and my car is on the Tijuca, and on it's way!  I found a link ages ago to the webcams they have at some ports so you can see the ship (if you are sad and desperate!) so I will have to try and find that again.  all going well, it will arrive in Brisbane on 25th May.  Bit different to the dealer originally telling me it would be the beginning of April!  Hah!

Enjoy your new Scout's.

Regards

Picked up new scout early march in NSW and found that the dealer had drilled the tailgate to mount the rear licence plate. Not Happy   :(

The DSG Scout was only introduced here in Oz in the middle of last year, but it has helped it a little against the Outback.

And yes, it's a great car for getting out onto unsealed roads with it's slightly higher ride height, but living in inner Sydney it doesn't happen enough. Good luck to the OP in Townsville, with the bush on your doorstep!!! :)

I feel like the skeleton in the 'still waiting for perfect man/woman' pics! Still waiting for the Scout to arrive. At least it's nearly at Oz now. Should be in Brisbane on 25th.

Wow Ozscout for the tailgate. Do they let apprentices just play around do you think? I can't fathom how anyone with an ounce of sense could do that, it's not as if there's no where else it will fit.

I've been amusing myself trying to find a set of double sun visors on the net. Only found a pair on Superskoda but their customer service is rubbish (according to the number of bad reviews around) so I'm not willing to chance them. There must be somewhere else I can get them.

.....sigh.....twiddles thumbs.....
