Blackberry Playbook 16GB

Featured Replies

I bought this a couple of months ago, thinking that it would be a bargain when the new firmware came out and you could run Android apps. Unfortunately, it's not as trivial as it was made to sound, and therefore I've barely used the tablet and stuck to my phone. Which is very much a shame, as the hardware and operating system are outstanding, multitasking is totally seamless. For example I can be playing a 3D game, get an email and simply swipe out to read it before getting straight back into the game again. As someone who has a single-core Android phone and has used single-core Android tablets, the Playbook being dual-core and based on QNX is on another level for "smoothness" in my opinion. Some specs:

16GB model

front and rear cameras (I'll try and get some sample pics at some point)

Email, calendaring and contacts are available out-of-the-box with support for Exchange, Gmail, Facebook (full support) and POP/IMAP (email only)

7" screen, with 1024x600 resolution

WiFi support

My honest opinion as someone who's selling one? If you're after something fun, that you can put a million of the latest apps on as soon as they come out, then avoid it. Blackberry is lagging behind, and although the OS can run Android apps natively now, you can't install them yourself, they have to be re-released by the app developers. However, if you're after one as any kind of business/organisational tool, it's fantastic IMO. The email client has been brilliant to use, it can organise your work/personal calendar, grab contact information from several sources and present it in an easy-to-use format. In the couple of months I've had it, it's never frozen up, crashed, lost an email, rebooted itself, all of which are things my Android smartphone does on a semi-regular basis.

I'm looking for £175 posted, including an extra neoprene case which is a bit less fiddly to get the tablet in and out of than the one Blackberry include, and a pack of two spare screen protectors (there's one on the device, it's not the best fitment and has a few bubbles but that's only because I just wanted something on there to keep the screen in good condition, you don't notice them once the device is turned on). It will include all the original cables and packaging. Pics are available on request, I don't currently have any but rest assured that due to having a screen protector on it and not being dragged around in a case/bag it really is in as-new condition.

PS - If required, I can also throw in a Samsung netbook case that's too big for the tablet, and a copy of Norton Security for Tablets which won't run on it. Blame Currys and their stupid promotional offers, they literally wouldn't let me leave the store without them even though they're useless to me...

Apparently these are less than this for a new one now, so £150 posted...

Bump, at £135 posted...

Can you post up some pictures? I'm interested, tempted to root it.

Pictures of the tablet, or pictures from the tablet? Answer's yes either way, just want to make sure I'm giving you what you're actually after :D

Both if possible. Sorry to be a pain -

Looks like rooting isn't an option apart from getting Google Apps. Hmm. I also presume that this doesn't have 3G?

No, there is a 3G one (I think) but I deliberately didn't buy it as I don't do any commuting where I'm not driving, so I have WiFi everywhere I'm likely to use it and a WiFi hotspot on my phone if I'm desperate. If I was a regular traingoer or whatever then the 3G might have been worth it, but not for me. And yeah, it looks rather difficult to root, particularly since it's got the latest software on it. Ideally, after I bought it, I would have put one of the pre-release 2.x versions on which I think are easier to root, and then not upgraded it further. But with Blackberry's reputation for "corporate security" at stake, they seem to be doing pretty well at fixing any security issues.

Will get some pics of/from it tonight for you.

Any update on the pictures GAC - "may" be interested?

https://www.dropbox.com/gallery/87982/1/Playbook?h=0825d9 is the link to the gallery. I've removed the link for the front camera pic as I looked rough as hell the other night (definitely not Robshaw standard of "cute") and I'm very vain ;) but it's perfectly acceptable for video calling etc, does a max res of 2048x1152.

So far I've had one offer below the asking price and have agreed that if there's no more before the end of the month on Tuesday then it's gone, so let me know :)

Bump, the person who made the offer didn't need to buy this in the end so it's still available :)
