mirror mounting point bent... help...

Featured Replies

I had to replace the nearside mirror on the SDI. (Wasn't me.. :D )

I put a wanted ad on here but then found one on ebay, complete assembly

heated and electric (But wrong colour...) Gave £40 for it in the end.

It arrived today so I set about fitting it. Can't believe what a ballache it

was to do. Where's the logic in having to remove the entire door card to get to

the plug for the mirror :o

Once the doorcard was off I discovered that the plug on the new mirror wasn't

even nearly similar to the one on the original mirror. The one on the car was a flat

black connector wheareas the plug on the new mirror was pink and brownish and square in shape.

It was an oe skoda mirror btw...

Fortunately the wires were the almost the same colour so I clipped the old plug off the smashed mirror

and butt connected and heat shrunk it on to the replacement. Full function restored (heat and movement).

So happy with that but here's my problem...

In the impact, the mounting point for the mirror has bent slightly outwards leaving the new mirror looking

like it's been part pryed off from the front. There is just a hole and a double skinned section where

the mirror bolts through and mounts. It's quite bloody tough... How can I straighten it so the mirror sits flush as it's

meant to? It needs bending in about 8 mm towards the interior of the car.

Any ideas?

Cheers...

Best thing to do is to (going to be a pain) bolt the old mirror on and bend it back out into place.. Be careful tho as if you pull to hard you couloir a crease in the door but that's what I would do to start with

Sent from la-Brom's iPhone...... Peace out, A town down.....

Could be tricky... Don't suppose a dentmaster/dentfixer would be interested in doing it?

Personally, I'd go for several rods or plates (pref metal or thick wood). Threaded bar or long bolts , nuts and repair washers and some force. Just be a little careful you bend what you want to and not something else.

Using the knackered mirror housing might be good though as it's more likely to be the right shape.to start with.
