ESC Failure

Featured Replies

Hi, Jan-12 Fabia TSi DSG elegance. A couple of times it's produced the above message on the maxi-dot, with a 'bong', illuminating the two ESC related amber lights and cut the engine power (completely).

Both times on the same junction as it happens - pulling onto a dual-carriageway (thankfully not in front of a 40-tonner), I think as it changes (into 2nd or 3rd, not 100% yet). Pulls like mad then bong and all power is gone. Fortunately lay by right there so pull in, engine idle is normal speed but very rough.

Turn off and on again clears it. Can't seem to reproduce it consistently so far. On both occasions engine has just reached 90*C but oil is yet to show temp.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

Looks like turbo problem (warning light and power cut), maybe it should be shimmed

Yep...get her into the garage for a fault code check. Best way forward. As irfant says, could be that turbo on the blink, or more precisely, a sensor.

Many thanks, it's booked in already, just looking for other experiences. Shim thing is interesting.

It's still running well otherwise - measured 0..60 (indicated) is well under the 10s quoted. Would be well ahead if we could pull off at 2krpm or more.

Did this problem get resolved as I seem to have exactly the same one myself!

Sorry I should have updated the thread. The message 'ESC failure' message I think is fairly generic. When I took the car in, there waiting for the service guys was a very precise 'misfire on cylinder 3' message in the error log. So in my case they literally just cleaned the contacts between the spark plug and the coil pack and it's not been back since :)
