Always annoyed by the absence of light over the rear passenger seats I've started buying a few things hoping to soon do the installation.

I've gone for the dome light that many cars of the VW group share. (Felicia, Polo, Arosa, Lupo, Caddy etc.) Mine has the code: 6N0947105E and it is VW made. A search on eBay will produce a good number of such dome lights, used and new. Their size is aprox, 14cm x 7cm. Wiring loom didn't come with the casing (just with a plain bulb) but you can simply attach cables to the pins on the back. If you want to be very professional about it you can get a socket but when I asked for it at the VW dealership it was about 5euros so I decided to leave it as is. Just for a small piece of plastic I find it expensive .

Since I will be cutting the roof lining (I'm already scared about that part ) I've realized that for a perfect, snug fit I will need the metal frame that goes around the opening and will most definitely hold the casing better. (I hope). I wasn't able to find it on ebay but my mech had a couple lying around from used Felicia parts .

Then it was time for the right kind of led. ebay again was the best option and at the link you will find what I picked.(http://viewitem.eim....0845924605/item) The size is just right for the board to go into the casing with no problems and the light output is plenty. Look for Car Interior 48 SMD LED on eBay and you will find loads but always make sure the size is close to 6cm x 4cm

Here is also a pic of the leds installed into the casing. I've used some foam I had laying around to keep the board from moving around and ready for installation.

Fingers crossed all we go well and I will not just mess up my roof lining. Will keep you updated with the results.

Managed to find the courage yesterday to install this with my mate. God the day was hot... 100.4F!!! :S

First we took out the front interior light in order to access the power cables which would feed power to the rear interior light. After we figured out which cable does what and how the rear light would function we decided on the placement and using the metallic frame as a stencil we drew a cutting shape on the roof. By the way we decided that the best placement would be in the same line where the roof door handles start. No head (I guess you have to be very tall) can touch it by mistake plus it is in reaching distance from my seat in case I want to switch it on/off.

Then the scary part starts - with a very sharp scalpel we made a smaller cut than the drawn shape and slowly with each pass we widened the opening. Then it was time to fit the metallic frame and with a bit of extra cutting of the roof here and there the fitment was perfect.

Note that the Fabia roof has a layer of insulation material - something like cotton. We had to remove some of that in order where the opening is in order for the light casing to fit perfect.

With the help of a metallic wire we pushed through the cables to the front interior light - that needs a few tries to get it right. Connected the cables and did a test and all worked fine.

From there on it was simply a matter of installing the rear light which clicked well in place thanks to the metallic frame.

Keep your hands clean! we did a couple of finger stains - some foam will fix that :p

If I knew from the start I would have ordered the car with one but........... at night I have a serious problem finding stuff I've thrown in the back seats.This needs to be done

Is it an optional extra on yhe fabia? My polo had them as start so i dont see why they couldnt fit them on a fabia

yes I think it is. Yours should be almost identical to the front passengers one.

Used I've seen them going around for 75Euros.

i did this to my felicia and added foot well lights smd leds are the way to go

Please post photos of when you do the job, maybe a few others will do it, im certainly thinking about it.

You get it with Electric rear windows if I remember right...

Mines got manual rear windows ... I'd like footwell lights too :-)

Have to disagree. I've the estate with only the roof light up front and two rear ones at the back door. Nightmare for lights in the back seats.

May I add I've the octavia estate. Not a fabia

I am pretty sure that you get the interior rear passenger light when you spec the sunroof only - this is on a vrs estate.

Elegance has rear lights, as said already it's different to the front light unit. The Roomster uses the front type in both positions.
