Lights left on warning beep?

Featured Replies

My 2002 Octavia does not beep if I leave the lights on and get out of the car..hence my battery goes flat if I forget they are on! my question is should it beep..!!? other cars do so....

Thanks

You can get a member with vag-com to activate it for you

My Octy only beeps if I exit via the drivers door. I would suggest the at the door sense microswitch (one of three in the lock mechanism) has failed. I think this a standard feature..... My car is a 2001 Elegance.

If you are handy you can remove the local and replace the defective microswitch, assuming it is at fault.

A quick test might be:

- lock car

- unlock car (and wait 30 seconds), the car should relock if no doors are opened

- unlock the car and then open the drivers door and close it again, the car should not lock if you wait 30 seconds

Other questions:

Does the interior light come on when you open the drives door?

When you lock the car (single press of the button) does the LED in the drivers door start to flash and remain flashing until unlocked?

Will do some checks tomorrow but something else is faulty too..if I leave the keys in the ignition and shut the driver door sometimes the car will lock the doors and I cant get in!! maybe the two faults are linked..

Yes more than likely, does the head unit switch off when you take the keys out? If not then I suspect the s contact in the switch isn't working. Possibly a blown fuse or more than likely it wants a new switch.

I had the same problem with my 04 Octavia and found it to be the switch in the door lock. Mine also didn't put the interior light on hope this helps.
