Leaking Heater Matrix

Featured Replies

vRS is being a pain at the minute, its problem after problem so much so I am on the verge of getting rid of it.

Latest issue is a suspected heater matrix leak. As per a previous thread about a leak which I thought I had cured the car is leaking water about halfway along underneath.

After tracing this leak it seems to come from where the heater pipes come through the bulkhead, coolant drops onto the exhaust heatshield runs along this and then exits where it can which is roughly halfway along the car.

Now I have a few questions.

1. If I disconnect the rubber hoses from the matrix pipes and connect these 2 pipes together will this allow me to use the car and also if I dont lose anymore coolant it will also clarify the matrix is at fault.

2. After looking on eBay for a second hand matrix I noticed that the 2 aluminium pipes that come through the bulkhead can be removed (it looks like there is a screw holding them in place) Now I am wondering if its just these pipes that are broken or I am guessing there is a gasket of some sort between these pipes and the matrix unit.

I have attached a picture where I have circled the part where I think the pipes attach. Could someone tell me if my thinking is correct and also if it is common for these pipes (or the gasket if there is one) is a common failure.

Many thanks

Here is another picture showing the pipes I am talking about. Are these separate to buy from the heater matrix. Anyone have a part number.

Many thanks

Fixed it. Took the pipes off the car and where they go through the bulkhead there is a rubber washer, one of these was completely shot and had been leaking. New washers about 2 quid so glad it wasn't the actual matrix.

Looks like I'm having the same issue.

Noticed last week water dripping from under the car. Today did an oil change and noticed my coolant was low. After running the engine to try and see if it was leaking I think it was coming from these two pipe.

That's another weekends job :(

Hello I think I'm having same issue with my pd 100. How did you remove the two pipes?

Heres a picture where you can see a leak from the pipes.

What are these washers called? What I mean is what part would I ask for?

They're called O Rings, if you do a search you should find the part number, they're a common failure, your local dealer should have them in stock.
