VRS pd losing power

Featured Replies

On the the way to work this morning, my pd vrs lost power about 4 times on the 18 mile trip. The first time it lost power, I was doing about 60 when I came off the gas, I can't really describe it but it didn't ' feel right ' de-accelerating.When I tried to accelerate, the power wasn't there straight away, it felt like the engine had stalled for a couple of seconds. I had no warning lights on the dash. The power then dropped off again a couple of times when I was doing a constant 60, it feels like it has stalled and not like a jerky misfire...

Was just thinking this morning it was Friday the 13th....

Sounds a bit like fuel starvation, maybe some dirty diesel? Could try looking at the fuel filter first?

Well its got me back home with no problems, let's hope it was just a bit of dirty diesel....

What's the fuel filter interval on the pd Vrs?

Not quite sure, but mine was replaced when it was serviced last December, its done 7k since then.

Car lost power again this morning, not as bad yesterday, thinking about changing the fuel filter first as hopefully that will be the easiest fix...

Hopefully it fixes ur problem , keep us updated.

Hmm, could be cutting the boost too. Limp mode can feel like this but it's usually accompanied by a disco of lights on the dash.

A VCDS scan would be very useful in the first instance to see what's going on as fault codes on the diesels don't always light up the check lights.

Could be:

MAF sensor (common)

Fuel filter (althought I'd expect this car to hiccup if it was this)

Fuel pickup pump (would make starting hard though)

Just some thoughts.

I've just spoken to my mechanic who does all the work on my car and he said it could be to do with the oil injector seals. It had new injectors last December and has done 7k with no problems until now, have also read a few posts on here about rising oil levels, so I checked mine and its above max..

Anybody else got any thoughts on whether it could be injector related regarding the seals ?

Has it been in for the PD injector wiring loom recall?

Has it been in for the PD injector wiring loom recall?

Good question ! Without ringing the garage up to ask, I don't know. I assume it was done when they changed the injectors.

Urs might have got the loom done but it's not a part of recall already, I doubt it's injector seals or u would have hard starts and smoke.

Well I have just arrived home after finishing work and on the 18 mile trip, its lost power about 7 times when doing about 50-60ish on A roads, seems quite happy around town at 30 mph.

One thing I did try is, when it did lose power I kept my foot in the same position, the power would keep dropping on and off for as long as I kept my foot in that position, as soon as I came off the gas while it was losing power then accelerated everything would be ok.....

Is it ok to drive like this ?will it be doing any damage especially as my oil level is above max ?

Not part of recall? Can you clarify what you mean there? The wiring loom fault apparently causes outright stalling which is dangerous at speed as the power steering goes and you lose servo assist on the brakes. Not sure if it could cause random loss of power.

The way you're describing the symptoms though it definitely needs a scan. Could be any one of a number of things and we'd be clutching at straws trying to diagnose it.

Yes just ring Skoda and they will clarify all u want!the loom is not park of the injector recall since February.

Since Feb? Oooh....that's interesting. Mate of mine had his loom etc done back end of last year on a VRS PD. Also someone else I know had the loom and injector work done on an A3 170 PD about a month ago. Wonder why they've changed it?

Not sure why but they took it off the recall, also someone on here that works for Skoda confirmed its no longer on recall , I had to pay for my loom when I got injectors done.

Well I've just been on a 35 mile round trip and its not missed a beat....

Still going to get it scanned and the rising oil level is still a worry....

Are u sure it just wasn't over filled?

100% certain it was not overfilled

...especially as my oil level is above max?

Welcome to the club.

Me, Ema_Jane and Nick_P have all suffered from rising oil levels after the injector recall. Get it checked out.

Welcome to the club.

Cheers pal, this is one club that I'm not that enthusiastic about joining !

On a more serious note, what have you guys done/doing about your problem ?

Edited by studmuffin

On the advice of Skoda UK I am monitoring it. My local dealer 'reseated' the injectors and changed the oil and filter and (touch wood) it seems to now be OK.
