Cargo/Pet Barrier octavia Scout Estate

Featured Replies

As soon as we get it, I'll let you know how it goes. I've got a 20kg Aussie shepherd who's wise to the ways of nets and things, and a young 4 month old pup who is learning the art of jumping the back seats to her great amusement... And our frustration...!

Fingers crossed the dog guard fits the bill and does the job!

Morning All,

Just a heads up when you get round to fitting the dog guard. Prior to fitting, I would ensure the bolts thread into the poles correctly, as the drivers side pole on mine has 'threaded'. Not sure if this was down to me, or if it came like that. I was able to install the passenger side pole in minutes, but the drivers side was an absolute pig, to the point that after an hour or so of trying, it is still not fitted. It was at this point I discovered the pole was 'threaded'!

As an aside, it did appear to me the metal 'D' you attach the bottom of the pole to was further down than on the passenger side, as when the pole was in situ, there was a gap of about 1cm between the bottome of the pole and the 'D', which was a much larger gap than the one I observed on the other side.

I am at present trying to arrange a replacement and I will get them to confirm the metal 'D' is in the correct location or I should have went to Specsavers.

This thread has been very interesting and informative.

Can I ask a couple of questions to those that have the dog guards.

  • I am getting the rubber boot liner for my estate, will this cover up the fixing holes/cause any problems when the guard is in situ
  • I currently use a tartan rug over the back seats to catch dog drool (lovely!) again will I be able to thread this between dog guard and back of seats to add that wee bit more protection

Thanks in advance.

Rubber boot mat should be fine. I have the plastic boot tray and it works fine with the dog guard.

You would still be able to cover top of seats with a blanket but may not need to as I expect dog guard will stop dog getting near enough to seats.

Sarge.

Hi Baracus,

When we take posession of ours, and get it installed, I'll post photos and let you know how tight it fits with the back seats.

Still waiting on shipping! Hopefully next week some time...

Thanks guys.

Have also ordered from ebay Rainworth Skoda £96 - local dealer wanted £145 to supply an fit. Am sure I can fit this thing myself and save £50 - a tank of diesel saved!

Now to see what I receive first - Blackline estate or dog guard?

Will post feedback once received and installed.

Cheers.

You should have negotiated the dog guard as part of the deal. I pity da foo' that don't haggle for a dog guard! :giggle:

I think someone should tell the owner of the white octavia there is a horse in his boot! :-P

...crossed with a Belted Galloway.

Well, I took my threaded dog guard back to the dealer and instead of sending off for a replacement they repaired it,using 'threaded cleanser' or other words that meant absolutely nothing to me!

Parked the car up, removed the the cargo roller and shelf. Tried the now infamous 'Drivers Side' pole, with the same results as the last time. The bolt appeared to be going in at an angle and there was still an issue with the 1cm gap between the pole and the 'D' clip. I then tried the passenger side, and even though I am right handed, and was relying on my left hand more, it was secured within 90 seconds.

I then went back to the drivers side pole and after 40 minutes I GOT THE B@$&@^? thing secured!! Five minutes later the whole shebang was fully installed.

Things to note;

1. After 20 minutes of fruitless attempts to install the pole, try and resist smacking the pole with the bolt insert repeated on your driveway. Failed miserably.

2. Same as above scenario, but resist lobbing the said pole like an olympic hammer thrower. Achieved, but only just!

3. Try and not let your elderly neighbours know what you do for a living by swearing like a drunken sailor on a run ashore to the Heineken brewery in Amsterdam. Another one in which I failed miserably.

4. Beware that it is a bit of a tight fit between the rear shelf and dog guard, you have to 'tuck' the edges under when closing it, and this can lead to cut fingers.

Apart from that, it is a brilliant and sturdy piece of kit. I don't find the view of the slats in the rear view mirror distracting at all, and this from someone who didn't fit his rear screen blind as I didn't like the line running down the middle!!

Now, if only I owned a dog....

It Arrived!! And seems to work a treat!

One thing to note- the bolts and black square piece of plastic at the bottom - are they meant to restrain the side joist that clips into the seat, or ??? We got one side on without difficulty, then the second side caused problems.

They seemed to add some stability, but if you pull up on the joists to test if they are locked in - they don't seem to do much (as in, the arm/joist come out).

Needless to say though, we put it all up, and no more dog hanging out on the back of the headrests!

$400 well saved!

Internets are currently down. When they come back up in approx 2 weeks, photos will get posted.

Received dog guard from Rainworth, great service ;)

Now just waiting for a car :notme:

Dog guard installed. Bit fiddly trying to get the 'clamp' to work properly at the bottom of the fixing rods but got there. Whole thing is very secure, does not rattle and finishes off the back quite well imho. Have removed the retractable shelf as the dog will just drool all over it, nice.

Easy enough to install and saved myself £50 by going down this route.

Hello all!

Apologies for the massive delay in responding... things have been busy!

Dog guard works a treat. As others have said - the clamp thingos as the bottom of the mounting poles are fiddly. Between my wife and I we had a few issues getting them on/making them work. But its up, and seems to be doing the job.

Dogs are happy. We're happy.

As promised - photos!

It wouldn't let me post more than one photo per reply... odd.

Excellent. Mine should be on the way soon.

Fitting the clamps was a bu66er, but Worth the effort.

I would also suggest getting some bumper guards to protect then from getting scratched by wayward claws! They vary in price but iirc I paid about £60 for a silver one for my Scout, which compliments the silver trim underneath . The black lab we have just loves jumping in to the boot, and not just ours either which can be a bit embarrassing!

I also use the the small boot net across the front as a flexible 'gate' which seems to curtail him, sometimes.

  • 2 weeks later...

Arrived, fitted and very happy.

I left the spring-washers off the lower bolts, made installing them not a problem and I can't see them rattling out anyway.
