Cargo/Pet Barrier octavia Scout Estate

Featured Replies

Hi

I have taken delivery of a my12 octavia Scout estate tdi here in Australia.

Skoda Australia does not market a pet or cargo barrier here. I note the Scout I have has no possibility of securing the cargo barrier on the c pillars or anywhere else for that matter.

What has anyone done re a barrier?

The ebay seller Travall does not list one. The one he does have relies on mounting holes on the c pillar (rear most edge) which the Aussie version does not have

Many thanks for any help as to where in the UK/Europe I could get one

Hi duderduderini,

Did you end up having any luck?

I'm in a similar situation with a 2011 Scout and want to put up a dog barrier.

Due to the angle of the rear seats, one of the tubular frame floor mounts will not be possible (add to that, my dog figured out that if he pushes against the bars, they separate - and he can wiggle through!!).

I'd ideally like some form of semi-permanent netting that you can put up/take down easily such as (http://www.hatchbag.com/suvcargoliner_pet_barrier.php) but I can't work out how to make it attach in the boot space.

What did you end up choosing and/or using?

Cheers!

Uncortunately duderduderini hasn't visited Briskoda since 16 April so you are unlikely to receive a reply. Is there any reason why you are not considering the Skoda dog guard above which is designed for your car?

Hi Denis,

The only reason is that it will have to be specially ordered at $$$ by Skoda, and I'd love to know some user's feedback about it before I commit. However, it's rapidly looking like the only option available.

Do you have any thoughts on it?

Cheers!

The Skoda dog guard is excellent. It's a perfect fit (as you would expect) and is very strong/well mounted. There are two mounting poles that attach either side of the boot. The guard itself then slots into and bolts into these mounting poles. You can remove and reinstall the guard quickly by undoing one bolt either side (by hand - the bolt is on a small plastic knob for this purpose), swing it down slightly and lifting it out of the slots. The mounting pole things themselves remain in place and do not intrude into the boot area. You can also drop the seat backs with the guard in place if you ever felt the need to. It may be expensive compared to universal fit guards, but I think it's worth it.

Thanks all! Appreciate your help.

I'll contact skoda to order it on Monday!

Can someone tell me how the poles mount? Does it interfere with the cargo-blind?

No, you can still use cargo cover and also the storage box along the back oh the rear seats - though it's a little tricky. Poles fit into existing metal hoops in boot and at top into rear seat fixing. Dead easy to fit. It's a well thought out bit of kit and one which I feel justifies being described as 'simply clever'!

Dog guards are a real pain on most current model Skodas, i've purchased custom made Travall dog guards for a a MK5 Golf (that also fitted my MK6 perfectly) and a previous gen Polo. Looked for one for my Fabia vRS estate and they didnt make one for the MK2 estate, stated there was not enough demand! I had two choices.....rip off Skoda guard that was dealer fit only (they have to drill holes in the seat backs i believe for the fixing bolts) or a generic fit guard. I went for the latter (a saunders mesh grille, cant remember the model now) and whilst it wasnt the best fit did the job. Dont have the dog anymore so no longer a problem.

I think its about time they started manufacturing self fit guards for their cars though this whole elaborate dealer fit malarky is frankly a joke

Octavia dog guard is a piece of cake to install - it must be because even I managed it!

took me about 10 mins to fit Skoda dog guard and about the same time to fit the "Hatchbag"......to protect the carpets also it folds out to protect the rear bumper,

Its the best size boot we have had for the "thing" to fit in

I agree that its a piece of cake to fit the Skoda dog guard and that its well worthy the money - its been specially designed for the Octavia.

Now our whippet Bedlington cross is 9, she doesn't jump over any more. I had tried without it and she seems happy where she is (at last). Mind you, it used to worry the hell out of me that, if I had to stop violently, I would have at best a dog with her nose jammed into one of the square holes, or, at worst,a fully "chipped" (literally) one. Doesn't bear thinking about....

Now all I have to worry about is 20 kilos of flying dog hitting the backs of the front seats in that event.

thats why ours is in the back he weighs 86 kilo mind you our other greatdane was 106 kilo...........we use to weigh him on the council weigh bridge,,,,,,

imagine slamming on and that smacking you at the back of the head

Another place to try is barjo.co.uk. I have a tailgate guard for my Octavia Estate from them (second hand on eBay) worked really well with our two German Shepards. Meant you could open the tailgate and stop them from jumping out. Also we did agility with them so could leave them in the boot whilst getting lots of fresh air.

We also used the Skoda dog guard in conjunction with this. They are both thoroughly recommended.

Any news Nirwin?

Hi all,

So I contacted my skoda dealer who said that the part number DMM620001 exists in the system but isn't accessible. He offered me another part (a part number that I can't find reference to online- cant remember it right now), and a cost of over $700AUD (520gbp).

I then called the head office of skoda Australia to find out if I can order te part and they said that I can't- some sort of regulation issue I believe.

I contacted the above mentioned eBay listing/seller who can ship entire assembly to Australia for approx $300 AUD.

Before I jump too quickly and nab me one of the standard DM620001 parts, can anyone help me out with the dimensions of it?

I worry that skoda has changed the Australian octavia scout 2011 model in some way/shape/form that would mean that that dog guard wouldn't fit... Ie $300 out of pocket and no way to sell it on again...

Any thoughts?!?

Thanking all in advance!!!

The one in our work Scout (pre face lift) is exactly same as one in my face lift vRS. Would be surprised if there was any difference for your 2011 Scout.

Sarge.

I'm 99.9% sure that the Scout has not changed around the rear seat / boot area since it's launch in 2007 right through until the last models produced in 2011.

I'd put money on the UK sourced dog guard fitting your ANZ specification Scout without issue.

I think someone should tell the owner of the white octavia there is a horse in his boot! :-P

Lovely dog btw!

Was that $Au300 all up including shipping?

If so, I'll order one from the ebay seller and be guinea-pig for you.

Kiwibacon, that's a phenomenal offer!

I actually contacted the eBay seller and he's selling to me via PayPal.

It was 325AUD all up. And with confirmation on here, and from the seller who checked my VIN, it will apparently fit.

So, fingers crossed it all works out- ill e sure to let you all know.

Yes- including shipping. So not really sure what skoda Australia has against us, charging $700!!!

I found similar pricing with the sun-blinds in NZ. Literally half the price ex-UK. Since we are forced to drive Aussie spec cars here in NZ (I want a webasto dammit), I'd guess the accessories come in via the same people.

I need a real dog-guard as my schnauzer thinks it's a great game to get around the roll-up cargo net and nudge my elbow while I'm driving. My skoda is a 2009 Scout.
