200 for cambelt and water pump

Featured Replies

Just been to halfords autocentre they are doin my cambelt and water pump for 200 is that good?

Well the price certainly is! Let's hope the service is up to scratch. No idea if they are any good.

Phil

I would steer well clear of Halfords.

Doesn't matter if the price is good if they're gonna do a poo job in my eyes. Have been warned off autocentres before.

Oh Dear Lex spend a bit more and get it done by someone recommended buddy

seems too cheap. Most good independents seem to be around £350 with oem parts. Does that price include the tensioner?

Cheapest I got mine done was about £280 inc VAT with genuine parts and a tensioner from a VAG independent. For £200 I doubt they're replacing the tensioner and probably using pattern parts.

I wouldnt bother.

250 normally

Did you not think that info was appropriate Lex? :giggle:

If you trust the guy and he's given you a cheap price then whats the problem? But if its just a random Halfords I wouldn't touch it at all.

Does the vRS need some engine mount bolts replacing too?

My local independant was only £190.

I got all bits from dealers and sure parts alone cost me over 100 quid altho that included water pump aswell,

Carn't really comment on price as i did it myself

You're right Volvomeg, I bought the full cambelt kit, tensioner, water pump and all that jazz including coolant and it was well over £100 in parts from my mate at a VW dealership. And i certainly wouldn't use anything other than OEM VAG parts.

My friend got his done for £280 all in form an independent but he had to buy the parts. If the guy bought the parts it would have been 320 upwards.

I always use genuine stuff when it comes to belts, they are quiet a critical part that would destroy your engine if they failed
