Fabia II 1.4TDI turbo

Featured Replies

Not sure if this is in the right area but here goes. My mother in law has just taken deliver of a Fabia Scout 1.4TDI. She drove it home from the garage and she wasn't sure if it was producing enough power or even if the turbo was kicking in. My question I suppose is at what RPM should the turbo kick in. She said it feels sluggish, she's almost 80 :giggle:

I believe it only comes with a 1.6 TDI engine now with 90 bhp and 105 bhp. Not driven the new 1.6 diesel so can't comment on turbo kicking in rpm. Maybe she should check the speedo though as they are a lot smoother now :)

Thanks for the quick response, I've just been on the phone to the mum in law and she's going to try and find the sticker in the owners manual that has the engine code etc. I thought it should be a 1.6. She managed to order it in Rallye Metallic Green (don't ask how!), I hope they didn't put a 1.4 TSI in by mistake, she'll end up in a wall

Rallye green? sure it aint got a vrs badge on it and two shiney exhausts pokeing under a rear diffuser?

haha! That's what I thought, no, it's definitely a diesel. She lives in Germany and she is a tough lady to bargain with. She originally asked for RG, but was told the scout wasn't available in that colour, then placed her order in a different green, then Skoda called her and said (after taking her deposit) that that colour had been discontinued. So she told them, 'then I want mine in RG or I cancel my order. After much to-ing and fro-ing between the dealership and Skoda, she got her way!

Rallye Green is available as an option on any Fabia here in Germany right now.

I couldn't persuade the missus that a green Greenline was a good idea though...

I just took a peek at the Skoda.de site, it seems that not only is the Scout available in RGM, it's also available as a 5door hatch aswel! Only time before those options come to the UK I suppose. I thought they'd be here first as I think the UK has higher sales of Skoda than Germany?

I have one of these 1.4 TDi Fabia's, not a Scout, just a lowly '2' model. The turbo seems to pull around 1800 rpm, to be honest I find it slow, but then I usually drive my Octavia. :giggle:

thanks for that, SJ. We've established that she does have a 1.6 tdi, Meadens of Sway have a Scout 1.6 so I'm going for a test drive in it tomorrow and see how it drives. (Avoid the New Forset and the M27 around 12!) :giggle:

When new the 1.6CR is tight and rather unresponsive plus unhappy below 1500rpm.

As miles clock up towards 10000 it drives much better and pulls from lower revs.

However as posted on numerous threads here it is very different from the 1.9PD which in my previous Audi A4 would happily pull in 5th from under 40mph. Both for performance and economy the 1.6CR needs to kept at higher revs. I never change up unless the revs will still be above 1500 hence 3rd around town, 4th at 40mph and 5th only above 60mph.

well, me and the missus drove the 1.6TDI 105hp scout today and I can honestly say I was very underwhelmed:( It doesn't pull at all like the old 1.9 and the turbo seemed a little reluctant to give the power when I wanted. A six speed box would be nice aswell I thought. Had a long chat with the dealer and he suggested getting a remap. I asked if this would affect the warranty and his reply was ' they wouldn't know' ! Aside from that is was a lovely drive, nice handling and it felt solid inside. I still prefer the looks of the MkI tbh, but that's personal taste I suppose. I only wanted to drive one to see what the mum in law meant, and now I know. The missus is still interested in one though, so who knows? Maybe get a remap? Thanks for all the replies chaps :)

How many miles did the Scout have on the clock?

How many miles did the Scout have on the clock?

4 and a bit thousand, so it should have had time for everything to 'bed in'?

Yes at 4000 miles it will drive much better than new but better still after another 4000.

The 1.6CR is certainly quieter but I would be surprised if anyone thought it was a better drive or found it more economical than the 1.9PD. I've got used to it now but given the opportunity a comparison drive in my old 115,000 mile 1.9PD would be interesting.
