MAF faulty?

Featured Replies

Recently cleaned the throttle body after the revs were unstable & car down on power. Was fine for about a week, then emu light came on, error code 16486 - Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70): Signal too Low

P0102 - 35-00 - -

The car was not picking up smoothley, revving erratically, running rich, smell of petrol & soot around the exhaust. Disconnected the MAF & the car drove much better.

Skoda wanted £120 for a new one, so I tried a genuine second hand one off an auction site for £20. The revs settled down immediatley but the car didn't pull under boost like she used to. After about 50miles, light came on again with the following code:

17536 - Fuel Trim; Bank 1 (Mult): System too Lean

P1128 - 35-00 - -

This points to a dodgy MAF, oxygen sensors or fuel injectors. I did put some redex injector cleaner in the tank after cleaning the throttle body, maybe this dislodged something & blocked the injectors? Maybe I have bought a dodgy MAF? Maybe the oxygen sensor is covered in soot/ unburnt fuel?

HELP!!!

Thinking of taking it to a VAG specialist to get it sorted but there are too many variables (dodgy MAF, injectors blocked, redex causing it to run lean) for them to get a correct diagnosis I think.

Should I just drive it around a few hundred miles (I do 300miles a week) to flush the injector cleaner out, then buy a new MAF from Skoda, then get it serviced (last full service was 8 months/ 8000miles ago)?

This is doing my head in, please help.

Where are you? If someone is near by you might be able to try their maf.
