Zeiss lenses on Canon body

Featured Replies

I've always had several manual focus Contax/Yashica mount Zeiss lenses of my dad's along with a Contax film SLR body and a Yashica one. I always thought it was a terrible shame that I couldn't use them more often to shoot digital. I have used them for film shooting, but obviously it's not something you do everyday.

I looked into it and there are adapters you can buy to make them fit different cameras. The problem was that the only way to make them fit a Nikon body is to have a piece of glass within the adapter to adjust the focus, due to the distance between the lens and sensor. I didn't like this idea as I don't want to be putting cheap glass between the Zeiss and the sensor. Also, I really couldn't find any definite examples of anyone doing this with a good result. So, instead I went over to the 'dark side'. Yes, I bought a Canon! Just a cheap one, a 1000d, along with an adapter, which doesn't need glass in the way - hooray!

I've had a mess with it and taken some snaps of my usual suspects - the dog and the garden lol. It's a shame I can't use it on my D300, maybe one day I will give it a try with the Nikon adapter!
