Strange Fabia :/

Featured Replies

Okay so it started yesterday, on my way to leeds to see my girlfriend, cruising along and the radio turned off and beeped, like it normally does when i take my keys out to tell me its turned off. Took 10 minutes for me to get it to turn on after a swift 'careful tap' to the side of the radio/centre console.

I would put this down to a fault with my headunit, but on my way back home, after 10 mins or so, the traction control light on the dash illuminated itself and i cant turn it off. Drove it twice today with same problem, after 10 mins max it comes on.

Anyone got any ideas? Could they be strangely connected?

Sounds like the good old alternator load signal wire broken to me.

It is located at the front of the car under the bumper.

Basically it stops the alternator from charging unless the engine is revved up a bit so basically the battery hasn't been charging and has run out of charge which has caused warning lights etc to come on.

Next time try revving the engine up a bit (I think at least over 2500rpm) and that should cause the alternator to kick in by itself and start to charge.

Could also be a dodgy earth strap or a faulty ABS sensor.

So if i rev it over 2500 the lights should go off (eventually)? If its the alternator earth wire?

A simple way to check if it is this wire is turn the ignition on but don't start it. Do you have a battery light illuminated? If there is no battery light that comes on then there's your problem.

Guess i should have put 'ASR' in the search instead of 'traction control', what a dummy

After reading through that, it would explain my PAS problem, with it not kicking in straight away when started up sometimes. And why my battery went flat the other night -.-

I had the exact same fault. I thought it was something to

with a stereo I'd just fitted but that turned out to be

coincidence. Once I had pinned down what the fault was

via vagcom at my indy (FOC by the way)

I made up a couple of replacement wires with

connectors at each end and had my indy fit them for me.

(Because he had a ramp and could get under car) Otherwise I'd

have done it myself.

Very simple fix and you'll be back to normal before you know it.

In my case I had the entire plug removed and rejoined the

wires with a longer piece to allow for the movement down there which

caused it to snap in the first place.
