Hi

Thinking of getting the Grill of our car either painted ,or if there is a Grill that you can buy ???,any one had this done, the insert is all ready black but the chrome is the bit we would like to change.

Yes, get it painted/wrapped/plastidipped

On the picture, you will see my car - I used Plastidip.

I had mine colour coded. I bought a whole new grille (Chrome surround, black plastic fins, vRS Badge & Skoda Badge) which cost me including the colour coding about £220 i think all in. I would have to dig out the receipts

The reason i did that though was so that i could just swap them over come resale time and either keep the colour coded one or sell it on if i changed the car/colour

I have the Plastidip primer, black and plastidip gloss top coat in my garage. Did you simply spray the black on or did you do the full sanding, primer, black coat, gloss coat?

I cleaned the chrome bit then I just did 5 coats of plastidip. first coat always looks rubbish, second gets better etc..

So, no primer and no gloss. Just plain $7 Plastidip can :)

But is the grill supposed to match the car or just to give it a Matt finish?

plasti-dip is just a matt rubber finish. i've got a can to do mine (its easy do to based on the youtube stuff i've seen and reversible too) but not had the time to get it done yet..

matt is perfect for mine - it'll match the mirrors etc.

That's okay then. The above car though looks like the grill has primer on and doesn't look finished. Just my opinion though.

I think colour coding looks great on black or anthracite cars but on white, red, blue etc I'm not so keen and think I prefer the contrast of a black grill surround.

I like the plasti-dip matt effect look and it seems easier than spray painting. Looks similar to my black wrapped grill surround.

I like the black vRS above, looks real mean. I did this on my black pre FL vRS. Really wish I had got another black one instead of another white one
