Battery/bonnet question

Featured Replies

Hi, wondering if anyone could offer any advice on this one.

The other weekend the battery on my 2002 Fabia 1.4 gave up the ghost and needed to be replaced. I bought a new battery from a local seller, and when I came to fit it found that it fitted fine in the tray but was maybe 6-7mm taller than the old battery. As a result, the battery cover fits over it and the catches hold the cover in place on one side, but don’t quite reach on the other side.

The bonnet still closes fine, although it does just need pushing down a little on the cover to close. I think by getting some wire and wrapping this round the catches of the battery cover to pull them together, this should hopefully bring the cover down far enough to stop the bonnet pushing the cover down when it closes. Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this and if the above solution sounds like it might be OK? The battery terminals are only touching the plastic of the battery cover and no metal.

It seems that quite a few Fabias seem to take a different battery to what the books suggest...
