The missus likes to listen to the MP3 podcasts of In Our Time, but wants to have them on loudspeak rather than through the earbuds. We are using an old HP palm top computer but would like a dedicated unit with a bigger and louder speaker. A bit like an old tranny radio but with an SD card slot or onboard memory.

Any suggestions? I notice that Amazon are doing a few really cheap MP4 players but would rather get something good that would last for a while.

Cheaper to buy a small, battery powered speaker; or mains powered if she only listens in the same place, they just plug into the speaker socket.
